M8: Alternative to the Alternative

So this finally concludes the marathon that is the weekly beats. Kind of reminds me of my youthful bet where I boasted I can eat a kilo of ham in an hour (roughly 2 pounds for the crazy unit system fans). About half way through I thought I got it, no big deal. I got to slice #20 out of only #28. But yea, your energy/capacity isn't going linearly. I am happy I got through the weekly beats, unlike what happened with the ham.

The biggest difference between the two experiences is that I got all the cheering from you nice folks that we were in this together. One person deserves an immense shout out though -- @ilzxc. It was him pulling me back to music making, even when I was on a two decade hiatus. Making music is extremely hard for me. Every time I start a new track it's like someone hit format on my head and I have to start from scratch on everything. While there were occasional weeks where it somehow worked out very easily and I thought I nailed the magic formula, the next week I'd hit a wall. Everything sounded forced and unpolished.

While the final stretch was really painful and I don't quite like what I made, overall the process did make me learn a thing or two about the gear I have and has really helped me realize I don't need anything more, quite the contrary.

I've made more music this year than in my life before and, most importantly, I had a great time listening and analyzing what you guys made too. Not too awfully much, because I'd get depressed how you're all on a different level. Now I know you are, but I don't have to face it all the time smile

I can't get into specific people, because I'd inevitably forget someone, but thank you for reminding me the internet used to be a place where like-minded people cooperated and interacted in a positive way. Happy new year everyone!

Been great having you bring back these vibes I've lived with for, good lord, 25 years. You were there at the beginning and it feels good to have you hear at maybe the middle? Is this still ham we're talking about?

Love that wash of bass! A track that takes no prisoners, i like how you barge straight into the new year with this feel of defiance and bravery *fist-pump!*
Congrats on 52 weeks and Happy New Year! heart

Hey, man -- jeez, thanks for the shout out but thank you, was absolutely surreal to spend the full year making music in synch (and sometimes together-ish).

After a couple of days after submission still very much feels like I need to be working on a beat (so I am), and apparently I'm far from the only person feeling this way, judging from laamaa's twitter posts. We all deserve some rest, and maybe a proper weekend or two, but I reckon now that we made some habits... You know.

Stay in touch, love your way, thank you for joining and thanks for a pretty remarkable year of music. heart

great track to close out the year. WB is very much like eating a lot of ham indeed.

Agree, beautifully catchy ending, really enjoying the listen. Congrats on making it to the end. smile
