Building Better Paragraphs

By Jim Wood on December 23, 2018 8:42 pm

Voices from "Building Better Paragraphs" (Coronet Films, 1953). https://archive.org/details/BuildingBetterParagraphs). A more subtle use of Live's groove pool. Extensive editing of the "girl's" voice made her sound like she was cajoling a puppy.

I don't know how you're getting these sounds but I love it.

Sometimes I don't know how either. ::)

I wouldn't necessarily cal them voices since the words have been destroyed, but rather vocal samples.

If you like.

Thanks, I'll do that.

this is some very inspiring sound design. amazing!

East meets west meets ET. Sounds like an Asian influenced piece with western orchestral instruments mixed in with very cute cuddly aliens. I found that film clip both amusing and informative.

Somehow soothing and unsettling at the same time.

Thanks for listening!

Agree with east meets west comment, interesting blend of sounds, like where the voice almost starts sounding like a trumpet.

One of the things I love about your tracks is how the sounds are "synthetic" but still preserve the human element in them, and the fact that you tend to find the perfect balance between strangeness and accessibility.
This track is no exception. Well done!

I get a great gamelan vibe from this... has that ethereal, "temple of the robots" combination. Very successful mix of interesting elements.

"Strangeness and accessibility." Sounds like my life. smile

Sounds kinda cute in an alien way and I love the title!

Makes me think of a kind of fantasy elvish holiday tale for some reason. Enjoyed.

Alien and elvish; can't beat that!

My kind of paragraphs! A ceremony held in a temple located on a distant moon, love the bell-echoes big_smile

Really cool sound design on the voices and I enjoyed the aphex twin-like rhythms smile
