This week I broke out the sequencer and plugged a SoundCanvas on the end of it. This particular one being an SC-88, it always gives me Final Fantasy vibes. So this track was clearly inspired by that.

Actually, given the frequency with which the soundtracks of Final Fantasies IV and VI run through my head on loop, it’s probably not a stretch to say all my music is inspired by it ;-)

The way I listened to these as a kid was off a cassette tape from a recorder that I, like, held up to the TV speaker. Often times when messing around with one of the SoundCanvases I’ll do it through a Generation Loss to get back some of that feel. I keep thinking about putting the gen loss or some sort of FX chain at the end of these JRPG tracks, but usually decide against it. It feels a little too much like taking sand paper to a guitar to “pre-relic” it. Maybe if I get enough of these together I’ll put out a cassette release to get that sound honestly.

Your love of these soundtracks comes through on these tracks.

I'm getting the exploration with danger at every turn feels.

Its cool how the main melody is the player character and the stabs are the potential enemy encounters.

This composition is awesome! You go through so many different themes and variations in less than 3 minutes, all of them blending seamlessly. I love how you nail the mood and just lean into it as the track goes.

Love the odd meandering melody.  I never played or heard final fantasy, so it reminds me of nothing in particular, I just like it.  Its always good to hear a real melodic piece these days.

Definitely the horse feeding station with the most sinister vibes
- Ebrit

Like sneaking around an elegant castle. Agree with MrdrCat, this arrangement blends really well. The main melody is sweet and mannered as Uematsu, but the little chromatic turns make me think a little more of Kow Otani. Really like some of the leaps in the lower string like 0:54. Love how the piano transitions from a sneaking figure (~0:50) to a posh villain's line (~1:05). And always the clock-tick percussion. Mustn't dawdle, there's danger afoot
