Primor

More fun times with ROMplers. I know the JV series is the most sold synth in history or something like that, and that it’s present in some form or another on every recording of the last two decades. But for me, there’s always something about it that sounds quintessentially Playstation.

So I followed that path and ended up in JRPG-land (to no one’s surprise). There is something Uematsu did in a lot of his music of the era where, even in otherwise peaceful interlude-type music, he would inject a bit of the sinister. It’s the nature of the game that the party could be attacked at any moment, after all. I tried my hand at a bit of that here.

Sinister water level love!

Guess I'll rest for the night in this watery cave before heading out to grind a few more levels. There's a big boss fight coming up later, but right now everything is relatively safe. One of the party members just opened up and told a bit about their childhood, though they were also kind of vague so I'm sure there's more mystery to unpack.

Love the JV sounds, they always give me heavy Playstation vibes too. Would love to get my hands on one to mess around with one day. But they are still pretty expensive around here. One day..

Nice track, really enjoyed this one.

É um primor esta música <-- that's portuguese.  wink  Oh, thank you, had to come here to say: nice tune. It could be part of the utopic OST we're making....  smile)) cheers!

Damn, this is pretty. Love those extensions in the piano arp, totally spot on for Uematsu. Flute is quiet and vulnerable, and that note at 0:37 is money. But I think my favorite bit is the break at 1:22, the "injection of the sinister," where the diminished strings swell and every other part hammers on minor seconds just to really drive home the danger... and then falls naturally back into the piano arp. I bet some indie RPG designers would love to have this

The little tension at 1.20 and the release at 1.30 works really well, I love it!

This is very pretty, the end of the world will be glorious
