That Good Slap

By jegasus on February 1, 2026 11:36 pm

Well, hello there! Thanks so much for dropping by!

I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I do not have a lore section this time. I just ran out of time! LOL...

I once again had a hard time coming up with something I liked throughout the week and only found a little fun nugget last night while in bed right before going to sleep.

Today's song again features the fan favorite M8 plucked instrument, but it's not exactly the star of the show this time. I think the things that shine most are some of the elements that only show up sporadically, like the Cuica (aka, the Brazilian "Monkey" drum) and that scrape-slap percussion thing.

I wish I had had a little more time with this because I was getting into a REALLY fun groove creating new little sections and sounds for this, bu alas, the deadline is upon us.

Looking forward to listening to more of what you've all been up to this week!

Cheers, folks!

Love the cuica! Plucked is a classic, such luxury having a little polyphony in there. Great work with the solo on here too.

This is awesome!  Plucked macrosynth is such a wonderful synth engine to work with

Favorite. Love the arrangement on this. That M8 theme is very miami and I think I need this in my life. Awesome track Jegs!!

King of Plucked 👑🩵

**bows to thee plucked synth** that combined with the kick and cuica gets your foot tappin along in sync.  Excellent solo! \m/

Somehow this reminded me of the Commodore 64 game [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvsbaT6mLZY]Lightforce[/ur] and its iconic soundtrack that made a big impression on me as a kid.

Strong vibes of urgency.

really nice vibe here and sound design.

Lovin' the plucks! And the driving beat underneath is the perfect complement to it, very tasteful choices here heart

M8 plucks are a fav of mine too! These sound great. And overall I love the sound design in this one. Everything fits nicely. Catchy tune!

Dr Jeg reporting for DUTY

I guess I'll just have to make up my own lore for this one.  It sounds like every February 2nd at precisely 12:01 AM, the Groundhogs all gather at the sacred meeting place in preparation for their big day and have a party where they dance around and whoop it up for several hours before performing a ritual sacrifice to Frostfurr, their Goddess of Winter.

Oh yes. The plucks and that hoot sample set out such a vibe instantly. Awesome stuff.

The cuica sounds so good here! Like "Herding Mythical Mountain Cattle," this one has a very jammy vibe, both in the easy groove and all the melody-passing. And the instrument transitions are so fluid that I'm still getting lost trying to trace them. One of your better mixes, too. A fav

That is an epic track! This slappy string sound is awesome. The woof woof sample is magic and somehow works perfectly. And then you take us on a journey through different digital landscapes. I loved that!

daaaamn that vocal sample is great. its super dancy but not to upfront with it which is such a nice idea. still would love that the song gave me the big drums so i can go crazy but i dont always have to dance like crazy big_smile

Cool moving track. Those plucks are very cool indeed.

CUICA!!!!!!!
Also rain stick?

Super fun. It always delights me when someone pulls those modular classics from the macrosynth on thr m8. This had some really wonderful weaving melodies, very fun, and CUICA IS EVERYTHING.

Love this track (even without the lore).  The arrangement is so good, great transitions, and the little stereo ping pong delayed "woop" set such a great tone, and was a perfect choice for a grounding connective element.  Really killin' it this year my dude.

Nice job integrating the cuica in something that is not samba haha.

I'll make up some lore to fill the void:
The crew of the Jade Leviathan is climbing out of the wreckage of their spacecraft, which has just made a violent crashlanding into the jungles of Orvexa Prime. The survivors gather materials and prepare to head into the jungle to set up camp. Strange sounds echo between the trees. Will they survive the night and be able to send out a distress signal to the galactic federation? Will they meet a premature demise end at the hands of the local fauna? Or is it something friendly, keeping a watchful eye on the new arrivals from between the undergrowth?

I love the collection of sounds here, very MS-DOS/Win95 era of gaming. Great stuff!

that cuica drum is so cool!!! thank you for sharing that - i had no idea but i've heard that sound before

it's really cool how you used it in this track - really fun!

Somehow reminds me of International Karate. This would fit well, I guess. A bit of action, but not attention stealing so you can still focus on the game.
