Phantasms

Well hello, my pretties!

This week I come to you with a plump offering: quite the spooktacular tune! Hahahahaha...

I started out messing around with some piano samples (link 1 and link 2) and really liked how twinkly they sounded after some distortion, so I just kept it and added some more fun bits.

It's worth mentioning that this is also the first time I've used my Roland S-1 synth in a Weekly Beats submission! Sadly, none of its sounds were used - I just used it as a little portable keyboard to find melodies and riffs on the M8.

After putting down a bunch of pieces, I noticed the tune was picking up a spooky vibe so I ran with it. In the end, it kind of reminds me of a crappy ripoff of John Carpenter's Halloween soundtrack. Also also, it really reminds me of one of my first ever tracks, another bargain bin Halloween soundtrack ripoff, hahahahaha!

The vocals close to the end were provided by a good friend (thanks, Paulo!! heart). With his permission, I ripped the audio from a random video he sent me and sampled it into the M8 and I'm very happy with the weird results!

Once again, this was all sequenced on the M8. This time I used Reaper to generate the MP3.

And thank you so much to all of the kind comments on my last submission!!! Looking forward to listening to all of y'all's craziness this week!!!

Cheers, folks! Sleep tight!

May the monsters under your bed not feel peckish during the night.

PEACE!

Ha, I can see the John Carpenter vibe. The pianos do samples do sound cool! Those vocals work pretty well, did they really just come from a random video? That's great

Interesting there's quite a few spooky tracks this week! I'm looking at the calendar and I'm not getting it big_smile Is this related to the eclipse?

The low-pitched bassy sounds have a grungy DOS era SoundBlaster vibe. Not sure it agrees with the cleaner vibe of the rest of the track, which indeed reminds me somewhat of the Halloween theme, without being a ripoff.

The pinky piano with the echo reverb does give this a horror flick vibe for sure.  When the low end kicks in it almost sounds like a grungy bass gong being hit.  Pretty cool effect. Really like to Transition at 1:13 and the creepy vocals that follow.

spooky tune and the piano part is definitely serving up that John Carpenter vibe.

love the idea of using the s-1 as a little midi keyboard for the m8 to work out melodies!

"bargain bin halloween" lol. Whatever, it's a great track -- I'd watch the movie!

Huh... yeah, weird how many unexpectedly spooky tunes there are this week.  I really like the piano samples on this track, very Halloween theme vibes.

I like the sparkly distorted quality of that main spooky piano.  The vocal sample gives this mysterious tune a demonic feel with a hook.  Nice work!
