Howdy folks!

This is a first for me because this week I'm submitting a track on TUESDAY night!!! Wild, I know!!!

I just sat down on my couch and started fiddling around with some GO:PIANO. samples provided by sumedokin in the Dirtywave Discord server.

I didn't know where to start with this one, so I set the project to D# Minor, selected the piano samples from the pack above and used a random fill. After finding an interesting kernel, I started building things out and noticed that whatever I was building was taking on this air of anxiety, longing and sadness, so I felt like I needed to go deeper with it.

To share something a bit personal, I've recently gone through a very emotional few days. The weird thing is that I can't tell why I've been feeling so emotional - I just noticed that I was getting a frog in my throat at the drop of a hat. This "wave" of emotion has already passed and I'm back to my mostly-regulated self, but I decided that I would try to instill in my song that feeling of raw emotion blossoming inside you, filling you to the brim and demanding to be heard regardless of your other plans. That was an INCREDIBLY lofty goal and I am sure I was not able to hit the mark completely. But I know I didn't entirely fail, either!

I'm really happy with the results here. It's an admittedly simple tune, but I feel that it's still heavily laced with emotion. I hope this comes through to listeners as well!

To my ears, the last few bars feel a tiny bit rushed. Like, the ending feels a bit abrupt given where the melody was going right before the end, but I'm still happy with how things turned out. At a later date I might choose to expand this further, but for now this will be it!

Also, thank you all for being so awesome and supportive! heart Working on Weekly Beats has been a super fun way to keep the creative juices flowing and explore a bunch of weird music making corners.

Peace, y'all!!!

I like the stripped down feel here ... no percussion is a nice touch. It's so tempting to just add some hats or something, but this works really well with just the piano sample. Well done channelling the emotion. I hope you're feeling better! Oh, and Tuesday?! What did you do with the week off lol!?

Def understand those waves of weird emotional states. I've been there recently, maybe changing of the seasons or just waves of life. The simple melody over the bass part is great. It's much harder to make something simple and beautiful like this and proclaim it done, early, on a tuesday and let it breath. Kudos to you!

This is lovely! It's very relaxed sounding but there's something about it that's urgent, bubbling just under the surface. It might be that I kept expecting something to slam into the song that never did, but whatever you were up to, it worked! It sounds like a quiet interlude before something big.

Sounds good. Sometimes you don't need any more instrumentation than a pair of pianos! The stereo delay definitely fits, and the reverb creates a good space for both instruments. I like how both pianos interact.

This is firmly in music box land, as the articulation uses the same velocity across the board AFAICT and the tempo is rigid. This is an aesthetic of its own, so if that's what you're going for, awesome! But if you're open to a suggestion: try some velocity differentiation, not just random but following the melody (when it's rising, go a bit louder, when it's falling, go quieter). I admit it's somewhat tedious to edit velocities on a tracker vs. recording live. Similarly, try slowing down the tempo at the end of phrases, especially at the very end of the tune.

But again, it's a small suggestion, the track is emotive as is!

I like the simple stripped back feel of this.  It accomplishes exactly what it needs to and really does create an emotional feeling.

Congrats on the early entry, and I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope you can figure out what it was.

i quite enjoyed this evocative piece, and thank you for sharing about your struggles last week. it helps to know others are going through it too.  heart

Oh this is nice.  So much being said and left to be, would love to give this some different textures in a future weekly beats.

There are really nice melodies here! I really like the somber nature of it. The electric piano sound fits perfectly for this.

way to goal on achiving a tuesday upload!!! wow & nailing your personal brief!

i hope as the emotion works through you and the music you come into next week feeling a bit lighter

Thank you so much, that's really kind! Hahahaha... I used the extra time to work on this week's WB submission and still didn't have enough time to make it great, hahahaha...

Thank you so much for the kind words!!! Yeah, I can't put my finger on what did it. I have those moments every now and again. And weirdly, it doesn't feel bad. It's just a bit jarring to notice that I'm getting emotional discussing the most frivolous stuff, hahahaha...
Anyways, thanks for listening!!!

Oooohhhh interesting!!! I hadn't even considered using this as a buildup for something bigger! I think that'd work nicely too! Thanks for listening and the kind comment heart

Thank you thank you!!! Yeah, just the sound of the two piano voices is surprisingly nice. And thanks for the recommendations too. I was actually going for the more music box-y feel since it has SUUUUCH a nostalgic and emotional pull to it already built in, you know? But I'm really curious about how I'd get more detailed articulation with just the M8. You're right, editing velocities manually is a bit of a pain, and all velocity does here is change volume since the voices are static samples. I think if I were to actually sequence this on a piano VST or even play it live (had I the skills to do so) I'd get more expression. Anyways, thanks again for the listen and kind comment!

Thank you so much, that's super kind of you to say! I'm happy I was able to hit the mark I was trying to go for (even if just partially).

Thanks so much for listening! I've gone through several moments like these, they come and go like waves, often lasting a few days at a time. And it doesn't feel bad. It's just a different state, where I'm constantly wearing my emotions on my sleeves.
Anyways, thanks again for listening and the well wishes!!!

Thanks so much for the kindness. Like I mentioned above, these emotional phases happen every now and again, but they aren't particularly bad or stressful. They're just... A different state of being  you know? But anyways, I'm already back to my good ol self! Thanks again for listening!!!

Thank you, that's super kind of you to say! And by all means, the song's license is set to allow derivative works, please feel free to take it and bend it to your will! If you'd like, I can ando send you the separated stems, too.
Thanks for listening!!!

Thank you, that's very kind. Indeed, whatever it was has worked it's way through me and I'm back to my (mostly) normal self. Thanks again for the kindness and for listening!!!

Well, if it happens a couple of times, might be worth looking into it

Beautiful

Thank you so much for the kind comment. I think this is my favorite song I've ever made, period. I'm happy to hear others find it pretty, too.

E-pianos with delays are a win. smile
