la petite mort - spark x jegasus

By jegasus on December 15, 2024 10:12 pm

Hellooooooo there!!!!

I'm so immensely proud of this week's submission!!!! I actually teamed up with mwmwmw to make this piece of pure destilled art, hahahaha... Please be sure to also drop a comment on the song on his side as well since he did most of the heavy lifting on this one:
https://weeklybeats.com/mwmwmw/music/la-petit-mort

This collab actually started out with someone posting this image on the WB Discord group:

mwmwmw then responded to the image saying "no jegasus and I are making a track for sure, I will hunt him down". And just a few weeks later we exchanged a few DMs about ideas and voilá!!!

What's also funny here is that mwmwmw originally suggested we write a song about how the James Webb Space Telescope possibly has disproven dark matter. He even wrote some of the lines that made it into the intro - the whole "you ever look into you soul" and "you ever look into the universe to find the darkness?" part was all him!!! But then, instead of focusing on dark matter, I found myself writing about dark matters in a more philosophical sense. mwmwmw was a fantastic co-conspiritor in this and was super down with the change in direction.

It's worth noting that the lyrical content of the song is 100% real. This is something I honestly struggle with often, so getting to talk so bluntly and crudely about it like this has been quite nice.

I also need to shout out an amazing podcast called "Old Gods of Appalachia". The voice I use for the intro and the content warning are a bald-faced shameless rip-off of that podcast's narrator's voice. Also, the podcast itself is incredible and you should DEFINITELY give it a listen, especially if eldritch horror and folklore tickle your fancy.

Regarding who did what: I wrote most of the lyrics, performed the vocals and did one or two tiny instrumental bits here and there. mwmwmw created the beat, and produced the entire track, adding a bunch of effects and placing everything in the mix. He also took care of the final mixing touches, too.

To mwmwmw, I need to say: thanks for being an awesome partner in this. You created something REALLY fucking dope out of this thing and I feel really lucky to have teamed up with you on this. You FUCKING ROCK.

This community kicks ass so fucking hard. Can't believe the year is almost done!

Looking forward to listening to your submissions, too!!

Peace, y'all!!!

I think the lyrics are a sincere and direct expression. making music for that, and editing into the final piece just flowed. like the gods were impatiently awaiting for it and gave it their full support.

i still laugh at the end part lol

Dudes! This is sooo awesome! OK, the lyrics are epic. The ending is perfect. I love it all. I've been reading some poems by Philip Larkin and I think you'd enjoy his poem Aubade ... you're channeling some parallel ideas with this one. Soooo awesome. Great work!

Amazing, both the instrumental and the vocal delivery.
But what exactly is "Rasgação de ceda"?

YESSSSSSS mew mew mew! The vocal delivery is 100. The lyrics are 100. What a collab! lol Well done both of you!

Ooooh yais love how the bass is right in tune with the verse vocals.  Bad ace sound to this **bboy stance**  Suhweet collab!

What an awesome collab. Backing track is rock solid and sounds great, and The Jeg continues to show that he’s a damn fine lyricist and performer. It takes serious skill to approach a topic like this and make it engaging, funny and 109% real. Fantastic job, the both of you!

Love this!

This is a rap!

NSFW!

love how crisp this mix is, nice work you big_smile

I'm thankful for the content warning, otherwise I'd have been shocked by the lyrics tongue. Very fun collab, it's definitely a wrap.

Oh wow this is epic. I wish I could read the lyrics (not a native English speaker so sometimes hard to follow to lyrics in English). The beat is huge and perfectly appropriate. I love those wind like layers and the subtle layers. The rap is epic. Loved it.

lol y'all are crazy haha. You had me at "hold on to your buttholes." Fascinating and effective balance of goofy/serious, super fun listen.

really nice collab, nice fat bass, crisp drums == banger!

existential crises happen to the best of us, you'll be fine

Just way too much fun but also chilling lol, loved it heart

ha, making smile and nod the head. Raising my glass. Much respect for actually getting a collab done and a fun one at that!

Thanks for that CW! big_smile
