It's Been a Week

By jegasus on July 21, 2024 11:30 pm

Holy moly, it's been a week, y'all.
After a NINE DAY LONG power outage in my place in Houston due to hurricane Beryl, our lights were finally restored on Wednesday. I spent most of that time in a hotel in Waco. Since we didn't know when the power would get turned on, we were extending our stay at the hotel one day at a time. However, one day, they just jacked up the daily price 50% for no reason. After that, a very good friend offered us their vacant house in Austin since they were away visiting family in California.
I don't know what I've done in life to deserve this, but I am immensely lucky to know people like these.

Anyways, I finally got back home on Thursday night to find the grossest fridge I've ever had to deal with.

So yeah, it's been a week.

Oh snap, this isn't just a blog/diary - I'm supposed to talk about the track I made!

Given all that's gone on these past few days, I've felt super scattered and not too creative. So I put this song together in the final 2.5h before submittal time on Sunday. The vocal samples are all my own voice recorded directly onto the M8. And, if I remember correctly, all the non-vocal sounds are the M8's internal synths that I built up from scratch.

This started as a super low effort song, but I started to have a lot of fun during the last part where the vocal samples kick in. But due to the deadline, I just had to wrap it up and send it in before I felt I was done.

Given everything that was going on this week, I'm proud I was even able to get anything made in the first place.

Hoping y'all had a great week!!!

Love how it breaks into the main groove half a minute in, but the ending STEALS it.

Oh yeah muthafuckah!

Holy shit, I think you win for “it’s been a week”. I gasped multiple times while reading that. And for all of that, and still getting a track completed? Well done. smile

Not only did you get a track done, but it’s fun as all get out. Love when the beat kicks in at :30, and those vocal samples are great, loved how you used them. But yeah, that ending steals it - and is a perfect response to the week.

MUTHAFUCKA.

OK, I don't think your story about the last week was here when I first listened and commented! Shit dude. I just came back to hear that ending again lol. I hope your able to get your situation settled soon ... I don't know if I would have a track to show for myself if that was my life right now.

Anyway, I'm so glad you were able to push through and make this gem! Peace.

The story brings context to the track, so I find it a nice addition to the submission.
Thanks for sharing!
Muthafucka!!!

Uh! Oh yeah! Love the beat (and diary glad to hear you got thru all that) but the vocal lines are the icing on this sweet treat.  And yes the ending *chef's kiss*

goodness, here's hoping things settle down for you this week!
thanks for turning around this #RADTRACK so quickly!

smile

Hahahaha .... it's like a minute and 12 seconds full of happy surprises, the BOOM BOOM, the bass hollow tones... and then the vocals... and then muthafucka for the win lol. Awesome. I hope this week is better for you!

UH, YEA. A week indeed! great art can come from dire circumstances. Loved the sounds on this track, great vocal samples but also the bass and synths sound really good. Begging to be made into something longer!

Came back to see how this one compared after listening to the remaster.  Both versions are fun.  Sorry to hear about the circumstances surrounding this, though.  That sounds horrific.  And of course the hotels take advantage of a natural disaster to jack up the price.
