Dark Trance

Howdy, folks!

Here's another beat I put together 100% on the Dirtywave M8 Tracker.
Even though it's obviously super simple, I'm actually super proud of the beat I made. I feel that I was able to get something dark, mysterious and heavier than I typically make.

After putting it together, my mind obviously went straight to making it into another silly rap using the beat. But sadly, that didn't happen this time. Due to my poor planning, I didn't get the lyrics or the vocal recording done in time for the submission. So this submission is just the beat itself. I guess you'll have to tune in next week to listen to the wonderful lyrics I've cooked up, hahahahaha... I'll try to come up with a fresh new beat for next week to pair with the lyrics I've got now, but in case I don't have the time, the "fall back" option is to just submit this week's beat with my new lyrics added on top. Anyways, let's see what happens!

Alright, enough rambling! Thanks for listening, peeps! I hope y'all enjoy this weird dark and chippy beat!

Super curious to hear what the rap is going to be about over this ! Getting ICP horrorcore vibes, hahah

There's definitely an ominous feeling to this one.  Would be a fun one to revisit around Halloween.

This is a nice rappable beat! Awesome job on the synth design that drops @ 1:11.

Very nice, love the late lead!

The bass and the beat entering around 50s just suddenly move everything forward so nicely, sounds great!

Love how well the reverb works at the beginning, then beat comes it and fucks with your perception, forcing you to
adjust... then the bassline comes in and focuses the beat even more... great stuff!

I feel some sounds could help being louder, others softer... If you are using one instrument per channel on M8, use the mixer view to try and adjust so everything can be heard clearly... then add some limiting and boost output volume until the limiter is barely engaged.

This would be sweet as a rap, but I love it as an instrumental too! Feels like a boss fight in a dungeon

This is great; the twanging instrument throughout adds a cool flavor.  Following that with the synth part at 1:11 suddenly launches it into 90s Atlus RPG territory cool

Sad there's no rap, this has potential! Love the dark ominous feeling of this. The synth at 1:15 is a nice surprise!

yeah this rules

Love the snare and the lead at the end. So rubbery! :3

Almost a gothic rap vibe to this.  Solid.

awesome, that dirty pad coming in and lead coming in at 0:40 really got me vibing. This works as-is honestly, but also sounds like it could be a good rap beat. not really that close but I was listening to clipping and it reminds me a tiny bit of that at first

Off kilter vibe and that sick back beat. Ace

also made the mistake of listening to the tracks in reverse order, nothing can follow the rap heart

eery feeling, the interplay of the lead synth and reverb almost creates a phantom voice that sounds like its speaking at some points

Thank you so much, that's very kind!!! I've been having a lot of fun distorting the hell out of the M8's WAVSYNTH. I feel like haven't even started really getting into MACROSYNTH, which adds a COMPLETELY different sound palette.

Thanks so much!!! Squibbly squeaky synths can be super fun to play around with, hahaha smile

Thank you so much for the listen, kind words and the tip!!! I'm still super green with mixing and have a hard time with that stuff. Whenever I hear other people making music on the M8 I always ask myself "HOW on EARTH did you make that snare sound so punchy and sharp? Also, how does it stand out so well in the mix???". I'll try to follow your advice and see if I can put more emphasis on some things I want to highlight.
Again, thanks for the comment!!!

At 1:11 is when they reveal their second form - now with LASER GUNS!!! Hahahahahaha... Thanks for the kind words smile

Thank you!!! I can't remember if that was a preset instrument or something I stumbled upon while futzing around with LFOs and whatnot, hahahaha... But thank you!!

I KNOW RIGHT??? I can feel it in my bones that this is aching to be rapped over... It will still happen... Soon... Hahahahah... Thanks for listening!!!

Thank you!!! I need to look into my bundle/project file, because I can't remember off the top of my head where the snare came from. Probably one of the hundreds of sample packs posted in the Dirtywave discord group, hahahaha...

Thank you!!! It makes me really happy to hear that the weird stuff I make has an audience beyond just myself smile
Also, I don't know who "clipping" is, gonna have to look that up!

I'm particularly proud of the super simple (yet admittedly dope) drum march-style beat. I'm such a sucker for that stuff.

Hahahahahaha... At least I didn't conjure any profane images in the listener's mind with this one =P
But srsly, thanks so much, that's very kind of you.
