Chords are Weird

Howdy howdy, my fellow musicians! How are we feeling today? How is your aunt? I haven't heard from her in a while. What do you mean "which one"? The only you introduced me to a couple of years ago, the one with the brown dog. Gosh, what was her name... The aunt that you said helped get you into music! Yes, her! Oh, she is? Aw, that's nice to hear.
Oh, me? I've been up to no good, as usual. I started out this song by experimenting with chords. I'm not well versed in music theory, and I feel that most of my songs have the exact same chord progression (if they even *have* chords at all). So in this song I started off with some really simple piano samples and messed around with the chords, trying to highlight how removing or adding some of the keys from the chord completely changes the feeling and the emotion the song conjures up. I think this is most obvious in the first three "phrases" of the song, where I loop through the same 8 bar loop three times, each one adding more keys to the chord, but not changing the keys played of the voices that had come in previously. I think it really showcases how strange chords can be! Hahahahaha... This also just illustrates how ignorant I really am about music theory and formal music writing.
Also, a kind WB colleague (rplktr) mentioned how, in my previous tune, since the piano samples were all played at the same velocity and not allowed to really resonate like a real piano, that made it sound a bit like oldschool midi. So instead of that, he suggested I lean into the more glitchy tracker-based aesthetic, and that's what I tried to do! I added a low-pass filter as well as some degradation on the piano samples. I also added some randomization to its velocity (within a small range). I'm not sure which of the two "versions" I prefer more: the cleaner starker more midi-sounding one or the glitchy degraded one, but I'm posting the song with the latter. I'm curious to hear what y'all think!
As usual, today's song was made 100% on the M8.
Also, thank you all so much for the super kind comments on last week's tune I've been having so so so much fun with WB and it's kind of bittersweet knowing that it's coming to a close soon. On one hand I'm immensely grateful to have a community of folks whose new music I get to hear, as well as people who listen to and provide feedback on my own work! So it's sad to know that this is ending. But on the other, MAN is it time consuming!!! Hahahahaha... I think I'll be happy to have more free time for a few other activities =P
Anyways, just a few more weeks left!!!!
See y'all around, peeps. Stay safe out there!
Peace
