The Waltz of Steamboat Willie

By Jazzaria on January 7, 2024 4:07 pm

For the once and future Mouse
The Lawyers lawyered hard -
They lobbied both Senate and House,
Ensured his use was barred.

But now the time has come at last
The Mouse is finally free!
All may use him, none must ask -
And pay no lawyer fee!

This mouse-whistling-inspired jazz waltz features tenor sax, upright bass, electric piano, and brush drum kit.

Nice to hear some non-electronic stuff here.  smile

Nice

Wonderful! agreed, nice to hear the real live sounds

Damn this is a clean recording. Is it a live jam with other musicians? If so you guys are solid and I can't wait to hear more this year.

Mix is great, bass and saxophone blends super good together and no noises at all, this is quality!

Thanks all! Re: recording, so it is all acoustic recordings *but* all tracks besides sax are from "Band in a Box" - https://www.pgmusic.com/

i.e. sax is the instrument I'm playing (I do play piano as well, just not on this track). The rest of it I essentially scripted/arranged in - I came up with a chord progression to fit the melody, appropriate style/tempo/other bits, the software connected acoustic recordings of instruments playing to fit those specifications, and then I recorded sax on top of it.

I did spend some effort on the mix of course smile and yeah the trickiest part with BIAB is making the non-BIAB instruments (in this case sax) "fit in."

Anyway, thanks again, and yeah despite my name I don't do jazz *every* week - sometimes I'll do something more bleep bloop, or orchestral, or whatever I feel like. Happy to be here!

Very smooth, and time appropriate. It'd be fitting if this was CC0, but jazz this smooth gets a pass.

Heh yeah I'll consider relicensing it - I default to CC BY-NC-ND not because I like it, but because it's the only CC license that is compatible with automatic uploads to YT (based on a service I've used in past).

And, though I'm not really a fan of YT / commercial services, I do make my music available on it just to make it available - I'd prefer a world where everybody was into commons and all that, but am also a pragmatist and will go where people are (to some extent).

BIAB sounds surprisingly organic, but that's obviously only the background to the sax, and that thing sounds great. Looking forward to hearing more jazz on Weekly Beats this year! But also curious what non-jazzy things you'll bring.

yeaaaah. jazz..   i appreciate the 3/4 time as well

Just wow. It sounds great. You broke all the records.

Very nice! :] Glad to hear the mouse is now in retirement

ha wow cool!

I think it's fine to use different licenses in different places, as long as none if them are exclusive in some way, especially since you're publishing it yourself here (you always have the copyright on things you make)
