All the Things to Say

Journeys through familiar places can proceed in strange ways. It is difficult to capture how, as we either fall back on tropes or into noise. Despite the distance between these extremes, their bounding lines are thin - porous.

Featuring clarinet.

This isn't a solo...this is a soliloquy ranging from humorous whispers to primal screams. Fantastic range and variety, so well done. What's funny is that I started listening without seeing the title and had the thought that this was a musical monologue...your title is perfect. smile

I keep saying this, but some of the most unique and amazing music on Weekly Beats. Very much becoming a must listen for me every week smile

Thank you for the kind words! "Primal scream" is a somewhat common feature of my music, glad it has some impact.

This reminds me of when I would go out of town and would sit on a bench and improvise on my clarinet like this. I thought the 2:32 idea was awesome sounding. You sound great. Are you in school / went to school? I went to the University of Memphis.

Have you looked into clarinet with FX pedals? I had a blast getting a piezobarrel and an HX stomp with some headphones. You can really make a whole sound world with solo clarinet improv. I was going to do a concert based around this before my illness took away my ability to play clarinet 2 years ago.

If you want to hear how the EFX clarinet stuff sounds, check this out: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/mpud6n6grkmtaog9avkdk/Soul-Searching-Evan-Erickson.wav?rlkey=88rho2qfu1vgmvhni73s61g0n&st=ybolclzt&dl=0. You can set up snapshots where a bunch of settings instantly switch when you press a button, so you can preplan a few different types of sounds to improvise in.
