don't change

By Jason Nijjer on May 24, 2026 6:44 pm

Had a different track that was 70% done, but it just didn't feel right, was very forced.  Scrapped that track and this one came together more naturally and felt much better.  Thanks for listening and stopping by in this corner of weeklybeats.

Mmm, this is super pretty

Everything feels really cohesive into this kind of washed out vibey world. Nice bass as well.

This was gorgeous. Man people are so talented over here, I can't believe it. Feeding my imposter syndrome and pushing me to get better

Curious to know what's your workflow like !

Floaty and mellow. Super clean mix, love the soothing vocal and the sparse bass line.

Also, I second this:

Always fun when that happens. Man these samples are niiiiice just the right amount of squirrel

And that bass that jumps in 🙂‍↕️

The bass is so nice and laid back with the strings that just hover underneath.  Love the outro as it melts away.

Love the vocal samples. Sparkling textures to float on. Bass is awesome, drums knocking right on. Love it, Wanna lean back and feel the vibes.

really nice, Jason. gonna come back when my ears are less crispy from mixing

Thanks for the kind comments.  My workflow is nothing too exciting, I have absolutely no musical training, just always been a huge fan of music.  Without modern equipment and a DAW I would be making nothing but banging my fists on a keyboard.  The process varies from week to week but typically will start with the drums, usually by chopping a beat into one shots and then program the drums either in Ableton or MPC.  Then my fav part is crafting and manipulating the oneshots once the main beat is programmed to get a different sound then what the original samples sounded like.  From there based on the feel of the drums will program some simple chords to play some pad like sound (often with VCV Rack), sometimes will start with this.  Next comes the bass and try to find some samples to chop (vocals, piano, field recordings ... anything that works) or some simple melody programmed in the DAW.  If its a more hip hop tune then I like to try to scratch in some vocal lines.  Finally if its in the budget I fly in my sound engineer to mix the track, its never in the budget, so this step is still a bit of a mystery and where I need the most help, often I just throw a preset from Ozone onto the final mix.

Very chill and relaxing and you can feel the flow and natural progression you felt making it in the sing itself, really excellent. Love the little breakdown and percussion pick-up just after the 2 minute mark. Really nice flowing arrangement with lots of wonderful little surprises, its a great mood heart

So good, and thanks for sharing a bit about your process as well!
