cirrus reflections

What a great week for music, first a new Boards of Canada track (anyone get the myster VHS tapes?), then a new Massive Attack track and for good measure NIN drop a new live album.  On top of that it was RSD yesterday so local records store had sales on all their vinyl, great day to stock up on some classics.

Ambient track for this week, not something I'm used to doing, tried to keep it flowing as much as I could.  Watching videos of Elta Solar 42, looks fun but I could put the $3000 towards other more practical things.  Thankfully youtuber Omri Cohen seems to feel the same way and provides a great video on how to replicate the Solar 42 in VCV rack using all free modules.  With some macro mapping can play the VCV patch on the ableton push.  Also then came across another free VCV rack patch that emulates the microcosm pedal, used that on the keys.  Long one this week, hope you enjoy.

The pads sound so nice and warm.  Ooof the bass hits are like big fluffy clouds underneath the pads too.  It's like the late 90s again with that awesome trifecta of music last week smile Love the tension that builds with those chords.  Def would love to hear you explore this setup more \m/

Yes indeed, it is a good time for music. Nine Inch Noize was pretty epic - this streameddown/rave version of NIN made some tracks feel super fresh (Heresy!!!).

That heavy bass layer is HUGE! This is a great ambient track. Some of these high pad hits remind me of seagulls. Beautiful layering and I like the way it evolves organically.

Yes Heresy!  My son is obsessed with that version, played it all weekend

Love it. Epic sound design. Sounds polished and effortful.

My song this week was about cirrus refraction. Didn’t call it that but I am imagining a whole new song with that title that is much synthier

Listened RPLKTR’s leftovers of a future from a few weeks ago and it sounded like a continuation of this

beautiful. i'm floating

Some very dark ambient here. Enjoying this track a lot.

I just need an isolation tank now!

Oh wow... that opening bass right out of This Isn't the Place, on the NIN note, gsve me goosebumps. I am also envious of the Somar42 but Omri does a great job and VCV is powerful and wow so is this track lol. That bass and drone evolve beautifully across the track, especially the dirty modulation on the bass just past the halfway mark, ot goves the somg a real sense of uncertainty/unsettling quality that works so well with the more twinkling, melodic elements. There's also a really subtle, gritty saturation to everything that I must commend you on, its well tuned and really sets the mood and that's difficult to achieve with so may drones while avoiding issues with buildup and resonance... nerding out... this is really great. You inspire me to spend a month back in vcv lol this is amazing.
