Futility

Similar to last week, this one started from a little guitar bit floating around in the ideas folder. I had started something new new a couple of days ago but hit a bit of a wall because the ideas were happening but the motivation was not, so that one is on the back burner.

Funny story though; I wrote some lyrics for this song today as I was writing/recording it, which thankfully flowed a little easier than last weeks, and then recorded the vocals... then I had this strange feeling I had previously noted some lyric ideas down for the original guitar idea, so I tracked those down and found myself with two lots of lyrics. I liked parts of each lot, so I kinda Frankenstein'd them into one and rerecorded the vocals. Buuuut, in hindsight, I maybe should've just stuck with one lot or the other because each lot was a capture of word flow in the moment, and maybe I disrupted said flows. Eh, it is what it is... It's probably more obvious to me because I am aware of which bits are from what version/time.

I kinda thought this would turn out more interesting than it did, because the original idea used a dominant chord, which I rarely write with, but it feels pretty underwhelming in it's current state. I kinda ran out of steam half way through, which didn't help the end result, but stubbornness kept me going to get a somewhat finished version to upload.

Unfortunately, as I feared, I am definitely feeling pretty low in the enthusiasm/motivation/energy/focus/creativity etc lately, but I will see how I go, not giving up just yet.

Cool sound! Very raw.

absolutely beautiful work

Hell yeah trem guitar. And great vocals. The rest of the instruments came in and goddamn this whole sound is great. Good stuff

Listening this with the Weekly Meets crowd in Discord and really enjoying the tune!!! Super nice job with the guitar+vocals combo. The vocals especially are super evocative!

perfect fade out

Oh my goodness, this is amazing. Great work. The sparse arrangement allows your vocals to really shine.

Bruh, this is ridiculous.

Feels like I'm listening to my Sanyo Boombox while doing my homework back in the 90s.

I know that feeling of frustration, but you got something super rad here.  Would love to hear this fleshed out (big choruses and the like)

Vocals sound sensational in the chorus

Love it man, love the tone of your voice!

Oof when the drums kick in with your vocals heart  Excellent tone indeed \m/ well done!

super cool! vocals sound good, mix is alright!

in terms of composition, here's some knee-math I came up with after 2 listens cause I generally like it but something doesn't sit right / could maybe be enhanced: melody is nice and flows well, but to me it lacks some more rhythmic diversity. almost every line is more or less the same length, starts and ends kinda same places, so I think breaking it up a bit would make it more catchy. as for the chords something feels like it resolves a bit too soon, before enough tension builds up in the track. the sound of it is great and a bit more tension somehow would push the message across better, I think. maybe consider instead of going to the tonic minor at the end of each verse or like 8 bar loop or whatev, do something else and build up the tension thruout the song, and maybe conclude with the tonic at the end of the chorus. well anyway that's some ideas.

looking forward to hear the next tracks!

Absolutely beautiful performance
I believe in you

Motivation is overrated. Discipline is key... wink

This is terrific work. Production is spot on. Love that the drums are so low in the frequencies spectrum.

You can sing and play a great guitar part.

Didn't hear anything bad about how the vocal did flow. It is probably my favourite track so far this year on Weekly Beats.

Even without motivated, sometimes little gems gets out when sitting and trying to record a little something.

Thanks for this track!

JP.

From the pregnant pauses to the earnest vocal and soft percussion this was super sparkly and purposeful, favourited.
