Cherry Blossom

I wrote the original base for this song in 2012 on guitar, and even did a demo in Pro Tools! It was super rough though (it was my first proper official DAW), it had two acoustic guitar parts and two vocal parts, no panning, no eq, no comp, awful balance (harmonies as loud as the main vocal), etc. I think the only colour I used was a subtle reverb. Also, the verse lyrics were very mid...

So here is version 2; tidier, better production, somewhat better lyrics(?), and I switched out the main guitar for piano (mostly out of laziness). I carried over the 'lead' guitar bits from the original, tinkered with the sound a lot, but in the end I think I was just not liking that it sounded like an acoustic, so maybe I should have used an electric guitar or an instrument track. Oh well...

Overall, it somehow ended up both basically how I imagined a refined redo would turn out, while also not being quite what I expected. Go figure...

The strange thing about trying to focus on completing my older stuff this year, is that it is reminding me that in my more mature 'just get it done' subjective approach to my music, it turns out there is a lot of material that once filled me with a hopeful 'this song could be a hit!' buzz that stirred up the emotions, now just gives me an 'I mean... it's fine, I guess...' feeling. Ironic; now that I have the means and the motivating challenge to finally do something with all this material I have gathered over the years, I just don't feel the magic anymore that used to burst out of me when I would perform them live hmm

Very nice melodies and performance! I think the piano works very well even though you write it was chosen partly out of laziness. Overall the production sounds great to me too. Shame that you don't feel the magic of this anymore. It sounds beautiful to me!

The piano works well here, especially as the guitar line comes in.

As far as that feeling of deep emotion going away, life tends to do that as you reorient yourself around different values and priorities. It's not a bad thing. You're just evolved. The bigger question is whether you are still having fun creating. I hope so as this is very nice.
