Feel the Frequency

By Ipaghost on July 20, 2014 11:54 pm

Since I'm out of town using someone else's computer, I decided to do another stock FL track and sharing the source file. This time no samples were harmed in the making. It's been a while since I got a FL project under 70k.

But harming samples is half the fun. Sounding kinda 80s.

I bring my laptop when I'm away from home.  So fewer mics and usually only one guitar, but other than that my music stays mostly the same.

I liked this sound all around!  Faved.

Yes, but I have done so much harm... they need a break!
I added a noise floor just to dirty it up a bit and give it a retro feel.

Since my studio is mostly virtual, it's never that big of a deal to travel! Although I mastered this on a pair of Logitech headphones I found laying around, I hope I don't go home to find this mix super gross!

I'm listening to it on a decent pair of monitors and it sounds b00m! smile  The main bassline has a nice sound to it.  It kinda reminds me of Spring Heel Jack, but chill (or smooth?)  Nice job keeping it under 70k!  The image for my mp3 was larger than that!  smile

Ah! I wish I could hear it on a pair! It's going to be a long while before I go back home. I like the SHJ comparison, they totally used tons of sub bass kicks and reverb. Which reminds me I should probably do a dnb track sometime. 70k is't really impressive next to my old tracker files, but I doubt I could track as well or fast as I do in FL.

It really had that Tracker feeling... Would love to hear some of your old stuff. I've been recovering ideas thankt to Weeklybeats, specially from my ModPlug tracker / Fast Tracker 2 period (1996-2003).

And the bass for this one sounds boomy and jumpy. Very clean mix, specially considering the monitors.

NIIIIICE !!!

Hah, I'm sure you would change your mind once you heard them! I started on Scream Tracker, but FT2 was where it was at! I'm pretty sure it took me at least 20 years before I started writing the good stuff though...

big_smile fun fun fun

Guess we've all got good ideas buried into awful production techniques: All my early mods had duplicated traks SO IT SOUNDED LOUDER... Haha I felt so 1337! Superdupa Tracker Producer smile

Nibbles rocked, by the way... All modern DAWs should have one implementation of it, instead of all that 32-64 bit nonsense smile

Peace!

I'm pretty sure I did that a few times!

Happy, cool fun track! The mix sounds very good at my end.

I guess these headphones aren't completely useless!
