Taking it easy with a chill track this week.
My mixes get all screwy when I use the soft pads on my headphones, and I can never fix it on the monitors. Wish there could be headphones that sound true and don't hurt my ears.

That bell arp is slightly too resonant but I'm loving the chill vibes of this track

agreed, there's a little nasty mid tone peak with the resonant, only up till the drums though. super track!

Being halfway deaf takes care of the resonance problem. Nice flow and energy.

When's your next album?

So good!!

ahhhh those arpy sweeps like halfway/two-thirds through are so wonderful, could listen to that section over and over again

i'm sidechained

one of my favourite in weekly beats ^.^

Like waiking up in paradies. definitely a beautiful place to be. love the compression in the beginning.

this is paradies

lol thanks!

Gotta second the half deaf thing.  I think I lost a lot of high frequencies a long time ago.  Except for when I'm trying to lie down in a quiet room and they're constantly ringing in my ears.  D'oh!  Anyway, definitely a nice chill track that brings up images of beaches.

This is awesome! Love the fast wavy lead runs and the compressy vibe. Superchillmax.

lovely chord progression, solid track

Chill indeed. What people said about the mid tones is right though, it's drowning out the rest.

agreed, i'll have to come back to this one someday

Sounded fantastic to me. Good hearing on the mids and highs, though my AKG are very gentle in that spectrum... and that's why I screw a lot of my mixes when played on bright monitors smile

And always be aware of resonance dangers

woah!

The whole mix sounds off to me on KRK V8s, but I didn't have enough time to fix the fundamental problems. I probably should start my compositions on monitors, but now that I have bunnies, I don't want to bother them with loud music all the time.

Didn't knew you got kids. I kinda imagine you like a gold bachelor living at the end of the rainbow surrounded by classic singing consoles (for no particular reason, thruth be told) smile. I use Mackies or M-Audio monitors. I'm not a "monitoring zealot" in any way, though KRKs i've tested were too bright and bassy. For headphones I use Senheisser HD25 mk2. They're quite confortable and not very big, maybe they'll fit you nicely.

Ahh, and the GIF: the Chinook... always cool

These are my buns!

so many questions, but what is a classic singing console? and a gold bachelor? lol
I can't speak for other krk models, but i got the series 1 V8s because they sounded the best to me at the guitar center listening room at the time (this was like 2005). supposedly their signature kevlar cones don't color the sound, but i've heard rockits which a lot of people seem to have, and they don't even compare. My work space isn't treated for audio, so I probably lose all of the nuance anyway, but I've been very happy with them, and they totally improved the quality of my mixes since. They make me happy to listen to, and I guess that is more important to me than anything else since they are my daily drivers.

As far as headphones go, I have an Audio Technica ATH-M50x, which I actually really like/trust the sound of with the stock ear-pads, but unfortunately like pretty much all headphones of that type, sit on the ear and kill them after an hour of use (I have big sensitive pinna =p). I got some aftermarket Brainwavz HM5 velor memory foam pads that feel amazing, and aren't bad for casual listening, but I found I can't trust the mixes anymore. I'm pretty sure I would have the same problem with any other on-ear cans, so I think I might need to check out some in-ear monitors, but from what I've read, anything that comes close are substantially more $$, so I have been very hesitant.
