We Will Carry On

By Ipaghost on March 23, 2014 11:59 pm

This track originally had lyrics, but since my singing is garbage, I wasted most of my time trying to get them to work. The chord stabs are actually the cow bell, which sounds very much like Future Sound of London mixed with Washed Out. Rendered in the last 18 seconds, so I didn't tag. After listening to it, seems like one of my automations messed up, I'll upload a better version on soundcloud. >_<

Oh nice! I love the entry of the beat/bass and how it anchors the trancey stabs - paving the way for the very spooky vox and chippy lead. Pensive and yet groovy! Love it big_smile

Definetely feeling that FSOL influence. I'm curious about the lyrics, specially with some kinda Nite Jewel voice... Cool future funk for night driving smile

By the way, is it an 808 cowbell? Sounds more Casio-like...

It's 2 samples, the stabs are 808s, the melody is from a Roland CR8000.
I recorded myself singing, and that was totally unusable even with pitch correction. I did a few talkbox recordings, but I still need more practice to get it to sound good performance and production wise, but it will make an appearance sometime this year! I even tried doing some vocoder stuff, but that was just too hard to tame quality wise, I got it to the point that it was ok, but it wasn't as good the other sounds.
The lyrics were a bit cheesy anyway, so I don't really miss them much:

I should get you to lend some vocals sometime! I need to start a track before the day it's due, which has been pretty difficult unfortunately. =P

I know the feeling extremely well, believe me! That sounds like a laugh, count me in! big_smile

I have really enjoyed the collaborations of Towa Tei and Taprikk Sweezee if you want to know the general ballpark I want to hit it in!

A brief Googlin', and an even briefer listen, and the answer is Yes with a capital Y big_smile

That's a very imaginative use of the cowbell smile
Great work

Smooth!! love the 707'ish drums!

Nice. Love the cow bell stabs

Damn, that groove! I really like the vibe on this one. Another hit Ipaghost! (and @tim koch, that cowbell is mindbogbinly exactly in time with the track!)

Even without vocals this is great! Love your progressions and always love a good cowbell or three!

been listening to your soundcloud for a week. you've got some ace tunes there. carry on!

this is the best use of a cowbell since jeff mills' "the bells".

Excellent groove, and as others have pointed out a perfect cowbell!

Funky and tight, great track man

I've done this way too many times! That's why I got Ian's Image Tools for chrome. I'm not sure why we can't delete/edit our own posts! =P

Yes, an edit button would be handy!

like errrrybody above, love the cowbell melody and the pulsing feel of time ticking.  Excellent track yet again smile

outstanding groove! Never heard cowbells so nice intergrated before smile Also nice work on the reverb automation/sidechaining. Very cool fluent track!

Had me hooked from the beginning, love how the beat skitters along

Very nice, effortless chillage.

I looooove how that bass is produced! What is your secret sauce?

Thanks! The bass is Scarbee's Jay-Bass run through FL's Parametric EQ2 followed by Guitar Rig, into a side-chained channel which is then mixed the main master chain. My typical side-chain channel is controlled by the drum channel sent to a dummy channel with FL's Freefilter to lp the signal, then through FL's Peak-controller to modulate a side-chain channel everything, including aux is sent to. To control the amount of side-chain, I just dial down the amount of signal that dummy channel gets, or decay and tension on the peak controller. Because FL's aux channels feed directly into the main channel, I simply use regular channels as aux which let's me have more control, and more aux to do crazy send automation.

Thumbs up!

may be just me, but i think this track is strong enough without vocals
