happy half-way mark everyone!

in spite of a hard month at work, decided to resurrect a "cursed" track I started circa 2004-2005 and was not able to complete when trying in 2009, 2018, and 2020. still unfinished, but feels like I broken its curse (and will finish it w/ some of the original sounds that proved too difficult to incorporate in a weekend).

(I have some catching up to do on everyone's stuff from last week, too...)

The bass sounds fat! I love those periodic "horror chord" jabs, they're unpredictable too which is perfect haha. The trilled percussion really spices up the groove too. The melody at 2 minutes in lays down a nice vibe, and I like how it drops out temporarily after about a minute before coming back in with that swelling synth that sounds like feedback from a guitar.

stays unpredictable yet also keeps me grooving - love the distant piano-ish sounds that come in later - 3:15 on is amazing

Your compositions have a way of engaging active listening right to the finish.
This one's no exception. I love the almost steel-drum sounding instrument.

it's like the intersection of garage/2-step and clicks n cuts but with nice fat bass. sweet resonant filter action too, definitely keeping with the aesthetics of the time. great details, especially the high end stuff coming in at the half way point. the beds of distortion in the last quarter of the track are delicious. triumphant.

Feels somewhat contemplative, I like the organ stabs at the end.

what an innovative track!! everything is right on the spot with an awesome accuracy. the melodies give such a nice touch to that incredible beat. a pure joy to listen to.

Ah yes that beat is delicious! It is groovy, tasty, and feels just right. The textures diversity is really nice. Love it.

Your drums are so tight. How do you do this? Awesome flawless production on this one. The end really hit me.

Awesome rhythms and I like how it builds as various elements come in.  It starts off kind of glitchy and strange but becomes a real head bopper by the end.

Your sonic palate always delivers. This mix is so good.

Cool drums and sounds, it's so fun to listen! I like in the end with this shining ambient and distortion. And happy half year!

Proper Jimmac analysis - I like it. It is therefore good.

Happy half-year to you, also! Thanks for listening -- even though I'm unhappy w/ this one. I like yours this week ("Ocean Library"), love how triumphant the writing is, but how understated and soft the textures are. All of the developmental motion leading towards the 2:00 minute mark is very well-paced imo.

And your previous ("No Song This Week 11th") has this soft "tap" sound articulating the rhythm, it reminds me of the "byproducts" of playing (e.g. sound of guitarist touching the strings), but without having the instrument that is responsible for these byproducts present in the mix -- I really like it when a tiny sound commands the attention due to being unique / interesting. Inspiring function for a sound I wasn't previously aware of, gave me some ideas. smile

HI REMEMBER ME?

the "gasp inhale" sound is so sick, and then that "piano falling off a building" is so amazing.  It reveals that the "sonic space" is actually a lot larger than you think, as you navigate this space in the dark.

oooh, surprise melody!

Super tight tones and that snare pops through nicely. Dig it.   So is this all Analog Rytm??

Yes I imagine the song it's exciting feeling to see many books and high ceiling and glass artworks in this ocean library, and some books float away of the shelves. No Song This Week 11th I'm happy if it gives you ideas, as yours I'm unhappy on this one but thank you smile

We've been at this for half a year, and ilzxc beats still basically feel like chaos-into-gold alchemy to me—no matter how complex or esoteric they seem, they end up working in cool and often unexpected ways.   In this case, the way the melody introduced at ~1:44 pulled everything together felt awesome.  The rhythm was working on its own just fine until that point, but the music seemed to draw out additional structure that I hadn't noticed.  Then the section at ~3:12 did it again. cool
