Clockwork March

By iHz on January 7, 2024 11:34 pm

Hello WeeklyBeats 2024! It feels so good to be writing music again. I didn't really produce much music in 2023 - a handful of cover songs and 2 original songs. And, of course, I neglected to actually release any of it haha. I still have plans to release an EP soon... hopefully!

This track was composed & rendered entirely on the Dirtywave M8. To get the creative juices flowing, I started this track with a randomly generated chord progression - sometimes I play around with chord progressions on chordchord.com. Put together some basic arps on the M8, added drums, melody, and started layering in some background elements. I don't think I'd call this track completely "finished". I really wanted to add a bridge or something with a different chord progression and I'd like to do a few "polish iterations" to smooth some of the edges. All that said, I'm pretty happy with how it came out for WB2024! Maybe I'll polish it up for an album or EP later.

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's 2024 submissions!

Great track, M8 always sounds so good, some awesome arp work in here. Def love to hear the final iteration on an ep

oooh that main lead has so much character! love the pitchbends and trills. really cool track!

That's one groovy M8 track you graced us with! Very nice sounds, balanced mix, and cool melodies with a chiptune vibe. That track is a banger, great start for 2024!

Thank you all so much! smile

I. am. so. jazzed. that weeklybeats 2024 includes The Return of iHz―no one makes wavsynth sing the way you do!

Like a lot of your tracks, I tend to forget this is chiptune and think of each part in terms of vocal/guitar/flute/keyboard etc.  For instance: it's really hard not to think of 1:12 and 1:52 as a transition from a vocal verse into a blues-ish solo guitar solo.

If/when you do publish an EP: please include at least one bundle―I've been dying to know how you track this kind of expression and keep the mix quality so clean.  I've used the tables from your M8 template since May 2022, but after listening to the phrasing in this track I'm sure we use them completely differently. tongue

Hitting the high notes at 1:15!! Sweet.

I love this! Cool instrument tone and amazing expressing melody heart

Simple, but very effective.

Thank you! You're too kind!

Interestingly, the "each part in terms of vocal/guitar/flute/keyboard etc" thing is kinda what I'm thinking when I'm writing a lot of these too lol. I've always been interested in chiptunes but most of my musical experience/background is with traditional musical instruments & vocals.

I'll definitely release some bundles when my I finally get an EP together!
