Damn that is some funky clav playing. Really love those mega-jazzy fills too. Are those on-the-fly improvised licks? That switch up at 1:44 is really nice too.

thanks! big_smile oh yea, the Fmaj7 Eb6 Dbmaj9 (or something) was a quick idea but a pretty good one. yes, improvised on the spot, but I did a few takes and selected the good ones. I came up with the two sections and played them each for a while before recording. The lyrics were half written from 2-3 weeks ago, and I realized that they fit the song in the last hour so I finished them. Sadly I can't quite perform the vocals and the clav at the same time but maybe with some practice I will someday.

That is a tasty jam, friend! And an interesting story that leads somewhere unexpected. I do hope you find the right thing to say to make her stay.

That's the built-in logic clav? I didn't know it sounded so tasty. I guess maybe the tape saturation is helping.

Great recording, and mix.  Great vocals too.

On the one hand, the clavs are drowning out the lyrics a bit, on the other, more clavs
- Ebrit

The spoken words and the whimsical clav have a Zappa vibe. Maybe it could get even more Zappa-esque with a xylophone solo somewhere. Very nice track!

Very impressing how you are playing the keys. The vocals remind me of Lou Reed. a very cool track.

I had a great time listening to this thank you

Thank you! It's one of the built-in presets. I think the UA spark compressors and tape stuff makes it even more funky tho.

Thanks! It's easier to mix 2 instruments than more but still, I'm happy with the result too big_smile

it's kinda hard to play clav solo and not sound like a student from the 1700s. what works, I find, is confidence and being as funky as possible, so I turned that shit up

oh yea! Main inspiration for this is maybe Funkadelic (see America eats its young album) and Zappa. Thanks!

Thanks! I only know Lou Reed from the jokes about reading while on the Loo - gotta check him out!
