HEMNE - Hydrasynth Explorer Meets Nord Electro

By horatiuromantic on October 20, 2024 5:40 pm

a jam on my own while a bit ill. this is the first ~6 minutes of the full performance you can see on youtube.

the concept was to use the organ on the nord electro (which I fixed recently and is in tip top condition, had it since 2009) and the hydrasynth to create similar sound layers and bounce between them. had the inspiration after watching "Evil does not exist" with music by Eiko Ishibashi. very nice, recommended.

it was a full improvisation but I'm not fully satisfied with the performance because it could use more thematic phrases, this one is a bit all over the place. I noticed this afterwards but didn't have energy to do another one. but whatev. I'm sick. can't focus. better than nothing.

oh and contributed some vocals to home taping association, not sure if it made it into their final piece but let's see!

The hydrasynth looks like it is a wild and uncontrollable beast. So this was a good demonstration of a consequent improvisation with ups and downs. Respect for your deep concentration. Sorry for your sickness and get well soon.

This one's definitely not Tom Waits material big_smile Kudos for the range! This space-y drone would definitely fit in a soundtrack. Will have to check out "Evil does not exist".

Hope you're feeling better now!

That organ has such a nice full presence to it. Very cool

Lovely drones, lowered my heart rate!

Ambience for days. Love the space this has, and how everything has room to develop and breathe. Soundtrack feels for sure.

I get what you’re saying about lack of themes, but I think that’s what makes this great soundtrack music - lays underneath the action and sets the mood, but doesn’t necessarily distract from it.

Great track, especially for not feeling well! Hope you’re on the mend.

Mellow and eerie soundtrack to my lunch. Idk if you feel like you can’t do this in every song but I might’ve liked to hear one of your crazy jazzy piano solos over a section. Usualyl what I am most looking forward to 😆

nice sounds. hope you are feeling better!

awesome!a wonderful improvisational journey. love the youtube video too. there's something oddly relaxing about the red aesthetic

Thanks, this sickness was so shit, this video is the only thing that came out of it. I'm not too happy with the hydrasynth sounds in here. Also in general, I haven't been very inspired by it. Maybe it will come back or maybe I will get rid of it at some point.

Haha, no tom waits that's true, I couldn't really use my voice. I think today finally I'm back on track.

Thanks! Interesting point. It's true, when there are no themes it fades more easily in the background. And eventually if you become familiar with it, the entire performance becomes one big theme.

Ahaha that's great to hear! I didn't think it fit this concept, so I forced myself to use only those two instruments. I thought about at some point switching the organ to an electric piano, though the tone on it is not as good as my usual one. But it didn't fit the mood. Later I tried an improvisation on 3 instruments - organ, hydra and the electric piano but that didn't go anywhere... I was not feeling 100% either, maybe like 10%...

Thank you! Haha didn't think about the red aesthetic but I like it too. I am pursuing more youtube stuff, but it's hard to get a good view in my tiny room. Might reuse this angle.

Lovely. Would go great with some bass clarinet wink
