Crackles

Enjoy a solo improvised performance on the Belarus, recorded on 22/12/2022.

Recorded with Zoom H5, mastered slightly with some UA plugins for better clarity and finesse of the sounds and noises: Pultec EQP-1A, plate reverb, LA-2A silver compressor, Studer A800 tape machine.

This piece is a cool recording that I might come back to and sample, loop and process to create more tracks.

All the little noises take us to the room with you. What is all this wood like crackle? Is it a very crackling floor? The piano recording has a nice resounding timbre. There is indeed a lot to sample and loop there!

It’s a few things. Creaky chair, floor, piano keys were squeaking and a bit percussive, then I also used  the piano note stand and lid as percussion. Also some foot stomps/slides. Cause the piano itself is too noisy to play a regular tune, you hear too much of the noises to ignore them. So this way it feels a bit more complete and you listen to everything that’s part of it including the room. It’s a concept I learned at the impro camp in august. Not sure if I applied it best here, but I like the recording still.

That's a lot of creaks, maybe a bit too much since it's drowning out the really beautiful piano a bit

Like others have said, I love all the included sounds of movement and the room. Lush, meditative and atmospheric. Feel like I can picture the room.
