Still the Lions Roar

By HoolieBrown on April 12, 2026 6:36 am

Another busy week, pressure plate came loose on my Jeep so I've been under that turning wrenches, had to dig through the archives for unfinished business, and I'm glad I did.  This is one of the first melodies I scratched out on the M8 when I was getting to know the instruments onboard - when I play with chiptune sounds I always try to think of what it would sound like rolling the credits at the end of a great video game, then build from there.

It sounds so good on the M8 I almost uploaded straight out of the box, but I had an hour or two tonight (saturday) and figured I'd keep my mixing chops up.  All I did was ride faders, do a little bit of copy and paste to build bigger in the final chorus, then widen the reverb and leads.  I was really heavy handed with final bus compression because the more I smashed it the better it sounded.  Render was hilarious because it was just two solid black tubes after the drums came in.

To everyone commenting in the last week or two I will work to respond soon, thanks so much for the incredible encouragement.  I listen to WB a lot while at work throughout the week and I'm SO INSPIRED by all of your work.  This community is amazing.

Mmmm delicious lead sound

This is awesome, like the credit scroll when you've just completed the best C64 game ever.

I missed this one, love the "slow ish" pace with push forward deep bass and fun top melodies.

Very cool vibes.
