layers and layers of mangled audio

it was a challenge to get the mix right on this one when everything is so sludgy to begin with. that's the fun of it. think i got it pumping nicely. very bass-heavy this one. and many many layers. lots of percussive stuff deep-mixed in. check it out on headphones if you can.

thought this deserved to be a 2 parter since the first half was mostly done last week. spent most of this week's music time working on part 2 and another unrelated track. the 2 parts are mixed a bit differently so it was a challenge trying to get a master on them that could balance it out (still a bit of a contrast but it was worse before lol). the week is done so here's what you get.

Oh wow - love this. Curious what it was made on? There’s something about it that reminds me OPN / Chuck Person’s eccojams. Like there could maybe be an 80s pop sample buried under the sludge.

This made for an engaging listening experience as I tried to parse through the layers with my ears, and then contrasting the two parts when the second one came in. Nice job.

I love densely layered music good work on mixing etc. Doesn't sound too sludge, just right.

this is cool it made me feel as if I was in a live environment while listening to it, like maybe a club. I like that sense of hearing people talking but not understanding them that it gives me.

Love how crunchy yet wet it sounds. Like trudging through deep slush. Really unique. Lots of great small details added as it goes like the little blip that comes in around 1:30. Nicely done!

It's got a great bounce to it!

this is super interesting, so much can be accomplished just with texture and some simple rhythms. really nicely done!

It's like swirling around in soupy soap or soapy soup. I like the stomping feel and the mix of textures swirling.

This dish is terrible, all bubbly in the wrong ways
This track is amazing tho, very tight

thanks! the majority of my material is programmed on a tracker and then edited in a daw. all audio and no midi. i'm going to experiment with different methods this year, but for now this has always been my standard setup. i won't say too much more...

it's mostly all self-sampling my own loops and beats. one of the layers in the first part is actually a full complete track lol. i did sample a couple of things from elsewhere, but no 80s pop this time around wink
