1. a room of his own

i wasn't totally sure if i wanted to do the weekly beats challenge when i started working on this track a couple days before the deadline. a couple hours before the deadline i decided to go for it after all. i started adding things and doing additional mixing etc., but the version i uploaded at the last minute was not quite finished and i wasn't satisfied with it. the most important thing was to meet the deadline!

shortly after uploading this version i added a simple but much needed bassline, and did some more editing/mixing. the "finished" and imo much better version appears here:

breakin the rules on the first go. in the future i intend to have tracks fully completed when uploading to weaklybeets. but i think if i hadn't done week 1 i probably would end up not doing wb at all since i was ambivalent in the first place. so it was worth it.

thanks for checking out my stuff!

extremely vibey

Lovely melancholic chords. This could be in a perfume ad - cliche black and white filter, someone vibin out in slow mo on the beach lol

Nice and chilled. Good to have you here. I hope for more.

Sounds great! Definitely getting a "glare of the last few minutes of sunset" vibe

Feels good  a nice interlude.

Awesome vibes. Dig the keys and drums, the right chill. I'll find you on Soundcloud too, welcome to the WB!

As other have said, the vibe is strong with this one.  I particularly dig the subtle rhythmic effect between the kick and that reverse feedback/cymbal-sounding thing.

This is excellent work!

Love the chill beat - I think sometimes we're our own worst critics. As I was listening and reading your description I couldn't help think "but this sounds finished to me" ha ha. smile

Very pretty keys. I would have listened to that progression longer. I also really like that one percussive sound that first appears at 0:29. It provided a nice, minimal transition.

Thank you all for these beautiful comments! heart

Chill! yeah this could be stretched out for hours. Nice to have you here!

I could listen to this beat for hours. So chill!

Elegant palette. The reverse cymbal kind of has the same effect – although not the same exact sound – as brushing a snare drum with brushes in jazz drumming.

I'm reallyyy frothing this track smile thank you
