Wake me when the weekend comes

By hent03 on June 5, 2022 9:50 am

I've been revisiting some of Muse's older albums. This song was inspired by the opening guitar in "Falling Away with You." Admittedly, they sound completely different; my track is more like a kind of folk-classical hymn. Still, I'm happy with the way the middle section turned out, which maybe comes out of nowhere but that's fine. Interesting little tidbit (maybe?): the guitar is tuned down a half-step except for the G-string, which is tuned up a half-step. It's never occurred to me before that I can just do that to arrive at the sound I'm looking for. It felt like a deepening of my understanding of the instrument, even if it's only a tiny thing.

Alternate tuning can derail the automatism we have when playing but they give new ideas and bring up a lot of new songs in ways we'd usually not think about when strumming. It's fun that you mention it's inspired by early Muse as I don't think it sounds anything like Muse (it's a very nice track and I like Muse, I just thought it sounds different). I like the arpeggio section around 05:55 and how it goes minor around 1:05. The slide section at 1:20 are tasty.

Very mellow, peaceful, and quite beautiful with the hums. That altered tuning sounds really nice too, I happen to be writing all my recent tunes in Eb standard so maybe I'll tune up that G string just to experiment some time. I'll cite you as the source of inspiration wink

Beautiful picking and melody smile really nice you're experimenting with alt tunings, gonna try this one when I have the chance!

I like the humming style you're developing in your latest tracks. I actually got a bit inspired by you in my latest track, where I do a high hum at the end big_smile altho your humming is nicer, more melodic.

I'd say as a little criticism that the noises when you move the fingers on the strings - they are maybe a bit too loud in the mix, perhaps something that can be improved with a different mic position. It's nice that they're there, just that they're slightly too loud for my ears. But otherwise I like the recording, it's v homey and cozy smile

I love the humming and the background ambience, it's so natural and peaceful sounding. I feel like I'm almost in the room too. Pure lovely.

beautiful as always. Love the extra baroque intermezzo. its a great surprise.

Nice use of alternate tunings.  I remember when I was in high school I bought an album by Half Japanese and it included an essay in the liner notes by one of the members about guitar tuning.  In essence he said it's your guitar, you can tune it however you want.  There are no rules.  You can even put whatever strings you want on it in whatever order you want.  I never went as far as that, but I thought it was a really eye-opening idea.

Really calming and inspiring listen.  Much needed in these turbulent violent times.

a little quiet, but very nice to listen to
so relaxing~

I love this whole acoustic with accompanying a soft vocal melody thing.  Its oddly reminiscent of something.  Sounds like a cool tuning too, like a big sus chord.

Ah, a breath of calm, lovely! Here's to a calm and restorative weekend ahead, I hope you enjoy yours!

Very pretty tune. I dug the sorta fakeout ending going back to the intro again.
