Political content below ----
All art is political, and "politics" is increasingly about fundamental issues of humanity. This track doesn't have any subtext or greater message beyond the title; it's how I was feeling this week. There's anger and hope, and several things that have nothing to do with any of this.
I'm fortunate enough to be insulated, for the time being, from the violence. As an American, I feel impotent. But also hopeful, and at least I can air my grievances in this way.
------
Working on this taught me a lot about how it feels to dedicate yourself to releasing a track. I've been making music for years and have barely released anything in that time; I drop things as soon as I'm not sure where to go. There are things I would still change here, but I at least pushed through to make something somewhat coherent. Most of the time was spent trying to get different chaotic pieces to work together.
Anyway, apologies for the melodrama. Posting a weeklybeat is no great act of rebellion. But it does feel good to get your feelings out.

EDIT: forgot to include production info. I am on a trip, so this was made on my M8, then exported to my laptop for gain via Airwindows ToTape8 (https://www.airwindows.com/totape8/) + conversion to mp3. Love ToTape8, I turn the bias down and input up to give it some tape crunch.
I made heavy use of the FM synth on the M8 for most things. I love the FM synth on the M8, and it's what got me to finally understand FM synthesis and make my own sounds rather than use presets or randomization on other FM synths. It's insanely powerful, and I think it being 4 operators gives it enough capability while still being digestible. Otherwise, I used the wave synth as well and like to modulate the wave size, warp, and pitch to get old video game-y sounds.
I always use a bunch of video game samples too, I download dumps of game sounds and use them for effects. Degrade + the timestretching trick can get you wild textures.
The drums are a mix of 808 samples from a pack I downloaded years ago and have kept in my sample hoard as well as synthesized on the M8 using the FM synth or the noise oscillator on the wave synth.
If anyone wants the bundle let me know ![]()
