Upgrade

Upgrade time!
I've managed to move away from Studio One (v2 from 2014) and some free VSTs to a PreSonus Sphere subscription. Lots of new stuff to play with. 
My goal was to have an "all midi" week and to spend as much time as I can learning the new software and practice mixing, rather than messing around learning riffs and trying to record stuff. Pretty happy with the result, feeling like its something I may revisit at some stage and see if I can recreate it with actual performances perhaps.
It started with a violin and a couple of notes which inspired a challenge of writing a 16 bar melodic passage. Other than that, I was just throwing stuff at the proverbial wall and seeing what stuck. I've never really mixed anything before so tackling these 17 tracks was a bit of a nightmare. In saying that, I've learnt a heap over the week so it wasn't for nothin!
Probably best enjoyed through headphones. Key challenges included general levels, reducing mud, and getting a violin to sound full enough to be as boldly in the mix as I wanted it, without it becoming offensively harsh.
