Again, nice guitar tones.

I especially like the clean guitars there. Fun soloing.

Yeahm you play very well and have some good ideas.  I'm wondering what you're shooting for with these.  I've been listening to the likes or Satriani, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, Beck, Andy Timmons, etc my whole life and is that what you're going for?  Sort of electric guitar instrumental compositions?  Or are these practice pieces you do on the side to explore a particular idea?

Great question. I've definitely been influenced by a similar pool of guitarists, the most notable would probably be Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, and Andy Timmons. So far this year I've mainly been going for instrumental lead guitar stuff ala Andy Timmons - Andy is the GOAT at this imo. There is something about the challenge and purity of writing this type of thing for a 3 piece (Guitar, Bass, Drums) that really resonates with me.

I work at a guitar store in Australia and a month or two ago, this regular customer whos pushing 80 - The type of guy who's been rocking out for the last 65 years instead of growing senile, recommended that I check out the album Starfish by The Church. So I did and was inspired by the track Reptile. The two guitars play these counter melodies behind the vocals that I found really cool, which I started playing around with from week 16.

I digress haha. So what am I going for? I suppose (generally) I'm exploring ideas through electric guitar instrumental compositions. I never know if an idea is going to be a hit or miss, I just make sure I get it done. Then at the end of the year I'll have a hefty bank of songs/ demos I can refer to for future projects!

The deadline can be a bit of a hassle. Some weeks are complete blowouts and I just slap some stuff together haha.

Andy timmons is great, so unbelievably fluid.  I'm right there with you on the purity of the medium.  Steve Morse calls it 'electronic chamber music' and I think that's spot on.

I get the weekly deadline sort of prevents thoroughly thought out compositions, and thinking of it as a bank of demos to work off of in the future makes total sense.  Good luck!  I'll definitely be checking your entries every week.

Delightful.
