Splicewave

For my week 8 track, I got a subscription to "Splice" to get some sound effects. A few months later and I realize I still have the subscription and now a lot of credits, so I bought a synthwave pack. In there are these bass loops that I liked, so I thought I'd try making a song with them. I did think at first that it seemed like cheating since "all the work" is done for me, but I did end up doing more to make this track my own than I thought I would have at first. I found the exercise quite useful given my current skill level. Since I already had a good bass track, I could concentrate on making the rest of it all work together, which is something I've failed at in the past.
Of course, I'm not completely happy with the results. I feel like the melody could still be a lot more energetic and interesting and the lead instrument needs to be changed. The song needs a proper bridge and the mix isn't quite right either.
But I did spend a lot of time on the melody already and learned a lot from starting with something I didn't like and getting it to the point where I have something I think is okay. And the whole point of weeklybeats is to not spend a ton of time making something perfect, but just to do something and learn from the experience. I believe I've accomplished that, so I'm happy.
(I am still in awe watching ModalModule create a track from scratch in just 2 hours on a Saturday though!)
