Happy Birthday

By gunnbr on April 8, 2022 3:24 pm

This week is my birthday and we'll be out camping in the wilderness outside of internet service the last 3 days of the week, so I had to do something early and quick. I thought I'd do a really fancy version of Happy Birthday so I could focus just on instruments and fancy stuff instead of coming up with a melody.
But then it turns out Happy Birthday isn't so simple. It's in 3/4 time, which I hadn't used before, so I had to figure out how to deal with that. Then it turns out the drum loops that I heard in my head just don't work in 3/4 time. In fact, I'm not sure how to deal with drums in 3/4 time yet, so I ended up not doing much with them here.
And, as always, I wanted to do more on this, but I've run out of time. Fortunately I've heard it's "expected" to post some seemingly low effort tracks from time to time as the weeks go on, so hopefully no one is bothered too much by this track.

Doing a 3/4 time in a tracker is dope, though -- did you use the GRV trick (zeroing out the last 4?) or did you use song-hopping or anything How'd you do it? (Also, like, first time trying a different meter is exciting and I'm glad you sorted that out -- with drum fills!)

I started out with a HOP on row C, but that quickly got irritating, so I switched to the GRV trick and just 0'd out the last 4. That made it much easier since I didn't have to remember to put the HOP on every single phrase. Handy that I can do that! Tim thought of everything!!

Happy birthday~
