Talk Show

By Gab Manette on February 2, 2020 12:04 am

I experimented with adding voice samples as instruments. I didn't use as many as I thought I could, but they're there! The track ended up being rather short but I think it fits with the idea of this being some sort of Talk Show theme, hence the title! Enjoy smile

Funkayyyyy! Good sampling work here.

Yes!  I love this, dude all of the sounds are perfect.  That bass is no joke, what did you use to make that?

COMPOSITION ON POINT! I love this so much ahahahaha heart

Love the percussiveness and fun wackiness of the compositions.  I knew from machine gun snare intro, it was gonna be great! It reminds me of the Fairlight CMI influenced compos that were popular in the 80s and is a departure from the traditional synthwave sound.  Love the sampled saxophones!

Perfection! I want to be the show host

I couldn't really detect the vocal samples, but I'm assuming they just worked as additional instruments.  Regardless it sounded great and really nailed that 80's talk show vibe.  I was almost waiting for an announcer to come in at the end and introduce the host.

Let the credits roll. The production on this is unreal. Well done!

Haha the instrumentation combined with the writing is too perfect. Sooo good heart

love this. every sound feels so accurate for the era evoked. masterful

art of noises whacky younger cousin

Many thanks! The bass is done with Diva U-He, which is pretty much my workhorse/goto synth smile I can't recommend it enough, it's just such a wonderful synth VST.

Can't hide anything from you! There are actually two Fairlight CMI samples in there! It makes me really happy that you could pick this stuff out, means I did my homework properly! big_smile thank you!

Thank you! If you were expecting the announcer it means mission accomplished!! heart The voice samples are indeed indeed just used as instruments, I wanted to add a few more noticeable ones but couldn't find them a good space. Maybe next time!

heart That's an awesome thing to say, thank you! big_smile

The sounds in this are amazing, this would come on TV and I would have to watch it. I don't know how you do it but all the sounds just sound right for the era. Great job Gab!

Agreed.  This whole track is impressive from beginning to end.

It sounds like it could be a Talking Heads track!  Love it.

Amazing performance, guess we can can the live band now.

Ah, I spend quite a bit of time researching what synths, samplers and drumkits my favorite 80s/early 90s artists use, then try to get the same thing out of VSTs and samples. I'm overjoyed to hear it sounds authentic, thank you so much!!

Seriously though, man!  I kept waiting for David Byrne to start singing!

And our next guest is .... I wanna be on this show. I'd totally wear a big bright suit. The sax player is killing it, just killing it. He'll go solo someday.

Ooooh man, I'd take a chance at writing lyrics if it could somehow make it so he sang them wink

A big bright suit? Heck yes! You'd definitely be invited, interview and live performance, the whole shebang big_smile

Funny thing about the sax is that I wasn't planning on it at first, added the VST in the project and got completely sidetracked. Ended up making a quick medley of Doki Doki Literature Club, We are Number One and Jotaro's theme from Jojo. Obviously none of that ended up in the track but it convinced me to give more room to the sax. It's a silly thing but it made me laugh: Sax Medley thingy

Got me movin'!

Your percussion is always so on point!  Gotta love those orchestra hits too smile  I def hear the tv theme vibe in this.

Excellent. I have nothing else to say.

Really good, again... in all the ways your previous stuff has succeeded. The orchestra hit really takes me back to the more colourful days smile

Those percussive elements man.
