Swooping Gulls

By frostyjr2 on March 25, 2018 12:35 pm

i made a piece of music i really liked for this week's WB submission... the only problem is, it's 6 minutes long.
i'm not sure if anyone has the patience to listen to it, so last night i made a different, shorter piece using some
of the same ideas and production techniques. i hope that u'll enjoy it!

Length isn't ever really an issue, but you will need variation to carry that length. If it's mostly the same bar over and over again, it's going to get tedious even if it's one minute, but a song that keeps changing can be an hour long with ease.

This song in particular has enough variation in the guitar, but since the drums are put too much in the front, that variation is a little lost.

M\Hmmm... maybe a remix with lower drum levels would help then?

It's either that, or put variation in the drums. If you're struggling with it, it's best to grab two sticks and hitting random objects, eventually you might automatically put some variation in there.

You make the music for your own pleasure. So, we, the listeners have to accept that. The song is nice, the way you are exploring the guitarscales.

TY!  i was on the train coming home from work, and i saw a flock of seagulls flying around out of the window, wheeling and turning thru a somber grey sky...
when i recorded this i tried to capture some of that feeling: the constant rhythm of the wheels on the track, and the birds as a free floating counter to that.
i don't know if i succeeded, but it was fun and interesting to try!
