Liminal

I recently was given a Yamaha PS-55 musical keyboard to play around with and I wanted to try to make a piece of music using only the sounds it could make. Almost all sounds except the piano come from this home keyboard from 1983! The keyboard belongs to my uncle and I remember playing on it often when I visited his house and being fascinated with the sounds it could make. The sad thing is that my uncle has now moved into a care home, so I've been helping my family a little bit with sorting and clearing out his place.

This ended up being a short song - a song about a cruel thief called dementia.

--

Ooo it's fading away
Time's fading away now
Ooo it's fading away
Time's fading away now

When was the last time
That you ever felt confused
And lonely at a party
Full of friends?

Important conversations
From just yesterday
Seem somehow out of reach
And out of view

Ooo it's fading away
Time's fading away now
Ooo it's fading away
Time's fading away now

Say goodbye
It was nice meeting you
But I won't remember your name
Say goodbye
It was nice knowing you
But I won't remember your face

Empty cupboards
And empty rooms
That's all you remember

Faded conversations
And things
Your face not familiar

Say goodbye

Very pretty, love the lyrics.

Lovely vibe. If only it wasn't a damn winter, I'd immediately go on a roadtrip. Off to the sunset!

Absolutely gorgeous and heartbreaking. You really make the PS-55 sound great!

This sounds so lush! Very impressed it all came from the PS-55!

Oops hit submit too early and didn't finish my comment...

The lyrics on this are also beautiful. It's such a tough thing to go through with family members, I hope writing this piece helped you find some comfort.

Great idea to challenge yourself with restricted sounds. It's really cool what you can do with it! My favourite lyric is 'Empty cupboards and empty rooms'. Powerful.

Thanks! Yeah a restricted sound palette can really force you to be creative.

The absolute worst criminal on this world for sure, dementia.
Very comfy feeling song though.
