Dance of the Fireflies

By freezedream on February 8, 2026 9:22 pm

This week I hardly had any time to work on Weekly Beats! I wanted to make something with a different time signature, but just ended up with triplets (I think that's what they are?). Anyway, I was inspired to make something Celtic sounding that could also work in a film soundtrack. I was a little bit inspired by the work of film composer John Powell of How to Train Your Dragon fame.

I wanted to have a main melody played on solo violin - unfortunately I found that the only solo violin I had was a free one that doesn't really sound good at all - oh well! I had to use it. (I was also starting to think I subconsciously stole the melody from Riverdance, but I had a listen and I don't think so.) If anyone recognizes it, let me know. :]

I feel like I might be just at the threshold of starting to feel okay about sharing my work that I feel is so imperfect and unpolished - music that I made quickly in flow, just for fun. Sure the violin isn't great sounding, but it's a creative idea and it's still worth sharing.

So I will keep creating!

Lovely full sound when the full ensemble is playing!  The violin sounds pretty good to me, btw

This is so good! If this is your rushed "barely any time" effort I can only imagine what you could crank out with more time. This is layered so well, and I love the subtle little details.

Very pretty and elegant
