Edit: NM. A better solution exists!

Originally I was thinking it's be great if we could filter and play by genre, but this stream of all songs is exposing me to tons of great tunes I wouldn't have clicked on otherwise. Now I'm addicted and trying to listen to all 341 songs for the week as I work. big_smile

Nice. I really like "The Exuberant If" track. Nice thick atmospheres over dem beats. That track in particular reminds me a bit of some Casino vs. Japan stuff. That's a good thing.

Ha! It's an acquired taste. ._.

That's my golden rule for this. Make _something_ every week. And if it happens I miss a week due to life, get something up the next week. Cheers! And if anyone sucks giant monkey nuts, it'll be me. But that's alright because eventually skills improve and I'll suck smaller monkey nuts. big_smile I... That just sounds wrong...

Started with Reason and it just never clicked for me. Picked up a demo of Live and started making short clip loops and composing that way. Really clicked for me be cause it was immediately accessible and fun. Been using Live for a little over a year now and exclusively in arrangement view shortly after purchasing the full program. I also picked up Reaper with the intent to learn since it's so highly praised on sites like KVR, IDM, and Gearslutz, but haven't gotten too far into it because I'm still learning something new every time I work in Live. That "Learn one well and use it well." mindset. Bottom line is fun factor and initial ease of use really made the choice for me. smile

Check out a book called "The War Of Art" by Steven Pressfield.

Novice/beginner mind allows for innovation, just stick to your gut and keep plowing through.

RZA said he believes 36 Chambers (Wu-Tang Clan's first album) was so successful because he had no idea he was doing. The next Clan album wasn't so successful, he thinks because he got "good" at production, so he went back to the basics are started reading "My First Piano Book" and chess books for kids (he's a great chess player).

peace!

Nice. Thanks for the positive insight. I know those times I've tried to make music to a specific formula (i.e emulate an existing artist/style) it worked, but sounded sort of lifeless. I have the most fun and best results (IMO) just doing my own thing without worrying too much about external expectations. Really looking forward to see how the next 52 weeks goes. Now that I know the goal is nothing more than make tracks, be creative, and have fun. Looking forward to checking out other people's tunes as well.I'm sure there's going to be a ton of really interesting music to hear.

1. Finish unfinished tracks.
2. Develop workflow to reduce stalling in middle of track.
3. Learn not to get so fucking hung up on little details and stall in the middle of a track.
4. Have immense fun creating new things. <---- #1 priority even if listed near bottom of this list.
5. Learn to construct my own synth patches from scratch instead of modifying existing.

Great. Thanks again!

Thanks for the replies.  Then I won't sweat it and I'll just do my thing. Last question, some stuff I might submit, might be more soundscape than structured music. Is there a requirement for a certain amount of beat/musical content for entries. Checked the sticky/FAQ and it seems like anything goes as long as copyrights aren't violated.

Hihi,

I'm just curious if there is a certain expectation for level of competence. I've been at it right about a year, but (IMO) still sound pretty rough and have pretty eclectic tastes.  So I'm wondering if "too amateur" or "too weird" will be an issue.  I signed up thinking that forcing myself to create a track a week will really refine my fledgling workflow as well as ( hopefully) production skills over the course of the year.
