Curious about what concepts / creative constraints other people might be considering for this years WB?

Here are some I'm thinking about. You?

1. 3 minutes max
2. Improv only
3. 3 beats per week -> 1 album per month
4. Just drums
5. Prioritize texture

How about a new random constraint each week for extra fun?

That's fun. Ideas?

Instrument limits. eg (use only 2 instruments)
Fixed chord progression. eg. use iii ii V I i
Fixed scale eg. use harmonic minor
Fixed time signature eg. use 6/8 time
Fixed tempo
iron chef style ingredient of the week: eg. must use maracas or trombone

lots of possibilities, could add lots to a spreadsheet and randomly pick one each week

obviously if you don't like it, you don't have to use it, but could be a good starting point if you're stuck for ideas

* Only my voice as an instrument (as long as it's fun to do).
* 2 to 3 minutes range (maybe I'll go longer sometimes).

Those are great! I imagine as more people post to this thread, we'll end up with a ton of inspiring constraint ideas. Will be fun to reference it as the weeks move forward.

1. use only the green emotions
2. be a sound (figuratively embody a sound in the abstract)
3. macrotones (only frequences outside 20Hz-20kHz)
4. do song in Taekwondo horse stance
5. be a sound (cosplay it)

you don't have to thank me!

almost time for a classic bryface generator "random Constraints generator"

but many thing you could add

1. play live instrument
2. do vocals
3. do a song polar opposite to the week before
4. do a 4 to the floor dance track and replace all your kicks with a goat screaming

Original idea was to only use real piano, but that went south from week one big_smile

My plan for this 2022 is to look back at the equivalent point in previous years and then select one of those to remix/iterate/improve/record/whatever. For this week I went back to the first track I made in 2012, and I'm pretty pleased with the results!

But otherwise if that doesn't work I'm just going to use Bryface's ideas.

I was thinking of only samples from the previous week's drop of works that allow derivative works, adding just a few other sounds and sticking mostly to loops and simple chops not manipulate it  until it's unrecognizable

i might do that some weeks, but will also have other concept lines. hopefully some death metal if I can find a place to records growls
