How it works
Starting on Monday January 2024 00:00:00 GMT (12am), Weeklybeats Members will be allowed to upload 1 song per each week of the year. At the end of the week the upload counter on the home page will restart and all submissions from the previous week will become available for listening and downloading. Members are encouraged to create a new unreleased song for each given week (of course you may submit your song elsewhere as you hold all rights to your content, but it spoils the fun if you release it before hand!)
The objective of Weeklybeats is to encourage musicians to be productive, creative, and have fun!
Here are a few common questions and answers. Feel free to login and reply to this message for any further assistance.
› Can I upload a old song?
‹ Can I upload a old song?
No. However: Your submission can be a old idea or sketch that was completed *this week.* You have a full 7 days to complete and upload your song. It will be posted to the public at the beginning of the following week, when the counter on the home page resets.
› What style of music should I write?
‹ What style of music should I write?
Any style you want! This is a challenge for you to be productive and creative, it has nothing to do with style, don't be afraid to experiment. The most important thing is to have fun and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.
› What constitutes a song or valid submission?
‹ What constitutes a song or valid submission?
The submission should be over minute long, but this rule is flexible. Just be sure your composition is complete and not just a snippet or a work in progress.
› Can I submit a old song? Can I start now?
‹ Can I submit a old song? Can I start now?
The idea is that you should create a new submission each week. If you have unfinished or unreleased work that you have finished during the given week, you are welcome to submit it. But remember, submitting it elsewhere before the counter finishes that week kind of spoils the idea a bit. You are of course welcome to do whatever you want with your material. It's just encouraged to allow everyones submissions to be released at the same time.
› If I missed the deadline for a week what happens?
‹ If I missed the deadline for a week what happens?
You missed the deadline, it's not the end of the world. Just try to keep up as best you can. This is not a competition, it's a challenge. Note: You can not submit a song for a week that has past, or for a week in the future.
› What sort of license will my material be under?
› Can I upload my music to another website?
‹ Can I upload my music to another website?
Your music is yours- You keep all rights! If you wish you may also remove your music from Weeklybeats at any point.
› Can I upload cover versions?
‹ Can I upload cover versions?
You may upload a cover if:
- You have the permission of the copyright holder.
- The original work was released under a license which allows derivative works, ie, CC-BY or BY-NC-SA
- The original work is public domain.
If you upload a cover of a song which infringes copyright we will probably have to take it down.
