Water goblin's song

By fetalface on December 1, 2024 11:53 pm

I became obsessed with the idea of transcribing Dvorak's "Song to the Moon" from Rusalka for a capella alto voices aka in my range tongue I'm not quite done yet but here is part of an interpretation of the interpretation.
I believe his music is public domain because he has been dead for over 100 years and the Czech Republic is justifiably proud of his work and wants it to be shared... but sorry if I am mistaken.
Anyway
Thank you, Dvorak.

I finally used PaulStretch! It's great.

This is really cool. Haunting, both beautiful and yet somehow slightly worrying. How did you do the voices? Did you sing and pitch shift that?

This is stunning. I don’t think you owe any apologies to Dvorak, this is like the definition of a transformative piece, something completely new.

It has the feel of a choir soaked in reverb, but more intense than that….like it has motion blur on top of it. Droning yet melodic…contemplative. Fantastic musical use of PaulStretch! Absolutely lovely.

The main vocal line was recorded plain (I think I sang it 4 semitones down from as written?), some of the harmonies were pitch-shifted in garageband, and then the exported track was shifted down in PaulStretch. I love the song SO much, I really want my folk-singing group (zadosings.org) to be able to perform it but it's going to be a bit of a challenge to arrange!

Thank you. What does a water goblin who is in love with a human prince sound like? What does she think she sounds like? This aria seemed to me like a vehicle for expressing not just longing, but also dysmorphia and low self esteem... maybe that's just because I couldn't hit those original high G's ;P

And underwaterness

the water goblin's have brought me comfort.

i'm really glad you are on WB, fetalface

Holy cats this is beautiful and terrifying and captivating. Excellent work!

A little chilling, but almost in a peaceful way. I loved reading the whole story about the piece and i think it awesome you took this piece you love and transformed it into this.
Genuinely I found this piece somewhat transporting. Very cool

glorious

what a fantastically cool obsession. Like others have said, chilling, terrifying, captivating, comforting and beautiful at the same time. This feels like it should be paired with a shroom trip

Wonderful atmosphere! Sounds great in stereo
