Uti Var Hage (in memory of Catherine Green)

By fetalface on March 10, 2024 9:56 pm

Version of a traditional Swedish folk song I am learning in Zado, the folk singing group I joined this past summer. (zadosings.org)
The spoken lyrics were recorded by Catherine Green, a past member of the group who passed away tragically before her time, shortly before the group performed this song.
The sampled recording is from her pronunciation guide for this song. Here, the song is presented in a style I hope she would appreciate. Her friends from Zado describe Catherine as an unfailingly kind and patient soul, filled with zest for life. She loved to learn languages and was learning Swedish when she recorded the pronunciation guide.
I would like to improve this recording, but for now I am offering it as is, as tribute to the memory of Catherine, who I wish I could have met. Thank you for sharing this music.

Lyrics:

Uti vår hage där växa blå bär.
Kom hjärtans fröjd
Vill du mig något, så träffas vi där!
Kom liljor och aquileja,
Kom rosor och salvia,
Kom ljuva krusmynta, kom hjärtans fröjd!

In our pasture grows blue berries
Come joy from the heart
If you need me for something, we will meet there!
Come lillies and aquilegia, come roses and salvia!
Come sweet crisp-leafed mint, come joy from the heart!

Could this be the start of an opera collab with Orange Drink?

I would love that! Especially if you and Frank can participate too. And Klaus Nomi

Lovely, my sentiments for Catherine, I loved the vibes and the synth parts were really fitting.

This is a nice dedicate to Catherine's memory. I don't speak swedish but your pronunciation of the words when singing sound pretty on point like you speak the language. The vocal harmonies are really nice, kind of reminds me of Gentle Giant?

Ethereal and alien sounding and lovely! Great vocal performances!

so creative, loved this! favorited

lovely tribute. love your vocal and the mix sounds really cool. thank you!

This is a journey. I appreciate the performative aspect of this composition. It's rare to see here on Weekly Beats, so it's a treat, especially when it's produced so well!

So sad to hear this, I think you pay amazing tribute, very powerful.

Wow you pulled out all the stops on this one! I love the theatrical interludes or "movements" throughout the song. The way the spoken word blends in and out of the bleeps and bloops is quite pleasant.

what a beautiful tribute, interesting arrangement and unique take on a traditional song. so cool!

Tragic, but beautiful.
