Strange drone for Tasya

By fetalface on January 11, 2026 9:53 pm

At least I hope it's strange!
I was not happy with the noise to signal ratio in the direct, bowed e-bass tracks so I will have to do some experimenting.
Thanks for Charlie for helping me with mixing!
Thanks to Farrah Faucet which is where I probably got the idea for the field-recorded tracks!

Woah this is bizarre sounding! Don’t think i’ve ever heard an electric bass bowed before. M’wife was really taken by it too as she plays bass.

oooh yais awesome tension with the e-bass and the scratchies yikes This could easily fit in the little nightmares universe.  such a gnarly growl heart

Thank you for this one.

this sounds extra wild if you also play the farrah faucet video simultaneously in another tab!

very cool in headphones, the bass....
feel like you could start an asmr youtube channel with a bunch of these!  big_smile

It's at least a little abnormal.  Sounds cool though.

You got some really unique timbres out of that thing.  Also it makes me feel like I'm in a horror movie.

I love it. Headphones makes it feel you’re bowing both lobes of my brain sometimes one at a time but also frequently both. Really cool sounds and quite adventurous for a drone. heart

This was quite the experience
Amazing tones from the bass
Good quality headphones recommended

An interesting composition, its worth the listen

No idea who Tasya is, but no disagreement about the "strange drone" moniker. This could be used as environmental music in some immersive art installation, or a game. The scratching in particular can mean many things, and with the menacing other sounds it makes me think it might be something shocking or scary.

The running water later kind of messes with that interpretation, but it's also where the nice bow harmonics start shining through, so no complaints there! I didn't think that part was too noisy, but you know best yourself what effect you were after.

Oh man, I love the experimentation of this. I NEED to try bowing my bass now, the effect is fantastic.

oooooh the filed recording is triggering my misophonia... real discomfort here
that bass is nasty i love it

Sorry about the misophonia. I think i have the opposite problem, I love noise. I guess I'm not too fond of most "mouth noises" but they don't give me the willies or anything. I do think I was going for an obsessive-compulsive sound with this one.

er, I love Noise and noises. i don't really like background hiss or hum generated by cheap cables etc that distracts from whatever intentional sound is being made but you get my drift thank you sangha
