Always coming home

By fetalface on December 15, 2024 6:57 pm

An adaptation of "From the People of the Houses of Earth" from Ursula LeGuin's book, Always Coming Home.
She's the greatest

Contemplative and mysterious. I enjoyed this. Using multiple really singing is rare in WB and sounds really nice.
I read Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin like 30 years ago, that was pretty interesting!

Thanks! I wasn't too happy with the results this week but always glad to have made an effort smile
I had kinda looked down my nose at sci fi/fantasy since adolescence, but got hooked on Le Guin not so many years ago.
Actually it started maybe 6 or so years ago when a friend played me a copy of the cassette that came along with this book when it was first published in 1985. It's a fantastic album and has been reissued & is available on Bandcamp.

The book is even more wonderful. I'm re-reading it right now. Highly recommend. Probably hits harder for folks who have lived in California at all. If you give it a go, let me know what you think!!

solid lyrics, got me in a trance, and that harmony is remakable!

remarkable*

this is fantastic, fetalface!
i need to read some LeGuin. checking out that bandcamp album you linked above, fun!

YEah, the Buchla on the first track of that album is far out. I like the rest of it too but i also kind of want to hear a whole Todd Barton Buchla album. I bet those exist...

one of the songs from the Urula / Barton bandcamp (i think it was A Homesick Song - which is a great title) reminded me of this Silvia Tarozzi album:
Mi specchio e rifletto

particularly the title track. i'm not sure they are singing the same word, but it did sound like Occhio...

how great is this:

Occhio
per occhi
per naso
per viso
sorriso.
Mi specchio e rifletto porzioni di me.

which translates to:

Eye
for eyes
for nose
for face
smile.
I mirror and reflect portions of me.

anyway! hope yr week is going well. maybe in 2026 you and emily and i can record something with a 3 part harmony. i can imagine it!
