Thunder

By fc on December 6, 2014 7:14 am

At about 5am this morning (Saturday morning), one of the most loud and sudden thunder claps I've ever heard woke me up. I then made my mobile phone record for a while (once I gathered my wits and realised it wasn't the end of the world), caught some lovely rain and some more thunder.

Isolated one of the recorded thunder claps, did some gnarly stuff, turned it into pitch/rhythm (after a bit of spectral wrangling), then popped the MIDI in to Live, made this piece. Everything is derived from the single thunder clap you hear at the start (which is in turn part of the larger rain recording heard throughout).

Really great. I love it!

And the score would make a great poster.

Thanks! I'm pretty stoked with this one actually.

Yeah, though that's only a small section of the generated data, but you're quite right! It would!
