The Girl With Lovely Hair (Giles/Wood)

By fc on June 14, 2014 4:29 am

This is possibly my first ever collaboration for Weeklybeats. I don't remember if I did some in 2012 or not. So this is my output from the material collectively provided/manipulated by Jim Wood (his piece: here).

Samples were originally supplied by Jim, then I manipulated them (using Max 6), sent them back, and he did something and I did something from the collective set of sounds. I created a "performance" patch on top of my sound design patch in Max and did an improvised performance, then layered it with a draft I'd done earlier. I think this would work best in quad rather than stereo, but there you go.

Huge thanks to Jim for this, it's been a really great experience and an honour to work with him. I've not heard his output at the time of writing, but I'm looking forward to doing so!

The sample sources are:
Snowflake's "Wake Up Kiss" (http://ccmixter.org/files/snowflake/45529)
Adagio from Symphony No. 15, by Shostakovich (though these only made it into mine in an extremely mutated form)
Jim Wood - Cello stuff & additional vox.

Nice arty stuff. Hearing your Max stuff lately, I'm curious about your PureData skills wink

Great work, Vince. I kind of like the "feat. Jim Wood" tag -- makes me sound like a guest singer.

Awesome. Thanks man! Yeah, it was a great experience for me.

Very nice balance of challenging and accessible elements in this track. Well done!
