Smash I

A short piece. Maybe I'll develop it into a series of short pieces later.
This is the morning of our malcontent.

I've certainly wanted to smash things sometimes when playing the piano... but never did. Thanks for that image!!

What, cocktail hour John Cage, suitably enraged?

I don't even play piano! You're welcome.

I just can't picture Cage enraged. I can picture him drinking an espresso cocktail though.

very nice time stretching (out of interest: which software are you using?). A series of those intriguing sounds would make sense to me! Next one, please!

No, the few times I met him, he was extremely laid-back.

I laughed out loud at this comment. Too true and awesome track!

Thanks. It's just Ableton Live's stretching algorithm set to "complex pro", and preserve transients rather than beats.

The series will be re-worked into a notated piece for piano and electronics to be performed. smile

But maybe some prototyping on here...

This would be Eyes Wide Shut as directed by John Cage

When the piano/electronics version is performed (and hopefully recorded), please let us know. I've really enjoyed your instrumental pieces.

An enjoyable sporadic smattering of piano and plates smile

Can you imagine an indeterminate Eyes Wide Shut? The horror!

I most certainly will!

Thanks dude. When I develop the larger work, I'm going to actually smash plates or glasses and record it myself. Should be fun.

Wicked.

i loved how the more acousmatic elements of the piece sat wonderfully next to the piano.  as an aside, the panning really helps the sense of space.  it reminds me of schaeffer's work.

for some reason this just got me laughing:) great sounds, I would have tons of great samples from this track!

A very good idea, made into very nice sounding music!

Concerto for glass pane and piano? I'm looking forward to it!

Pierre? I really should look his work up. I know a lot of his research/publication work, but not his artistic. Many thanks for the comment.

I'm really glad you like it! Do you mean you wish to sample it?

Haha! Concertos aren't my tea cup, but I'll keep y'all informed. If it happens outside WB (ie 2015), how should I get in touch?
