Prime

My first SuperCollider piece for the year. These probably won't be every week (for the moment) as I am simply too busy. But hopefully I can work on some stuff incrementally. Next week will likely be some kind of improv or a 20 minute piece I'm writing for myself and a violinist to perform at the festival I am one of two artistic directors of (along with Faux Foe), called Tilde New Music Festival, this year spanning three days and a five day academy, here in Melbourne.

This is a bit of a noisy piece. All SuperCollider, except some additional 'unifying' reverb and mastering chains done in Ableton Live. Built on prime number series (and the retrograde of that), up until 23.

Things I did not do: play with panning/spatialisation, at all. Work out proper time durations for scheduling.

Ah yes… at what point does the underlying mathematical structure become too abtruse to comprehend aurally.

Keep it up!

Refreshing! Wish I could understand/appreciate all the coding from a technical standpoint.

But would that aid your enjoyment aesthetically?!

Possibly, enjoying the process/techniques can be quite aesthetic!

A bit like a geiger counter. Cool concept. What do you mean by the "inverse" of prime number series?

Gorgeous. I really like the prime number structure. Off to a running start with SuperCollider.

Yeah cheers. Self-contained colliding!

Gald to see some SupperCollider around. You should give Chuck a go, I'm sure you'd love the Impulse UGen wink

My first impression as well.

Really neat idea, and an engaging piece to hear--thanks for showing a bit of code, too!

Very cool track.
And thanks for posting the code, although I need to spend some time with Supercollider before I am able to follow it.

I looked at ChucK years and years ago (and SC for that matter) and ran away and hid and then looked at PureData and was content. wink

I wouldn't mind giving ChucK a go at some stage, same with CSound. But we'll see...

Hopefully it's not going to send my house nuclear, or start an earthquake, or anything.

Thanks for listening and enjoying. The entire patch can be downloaded from GitHub for (re/de)construction.

I felt the same way, having made that one piece I can look at other SC code and make much more sense of it, which is good. I'm glad you enjoyed the piece, too!

Great work!
