i stuck to my goal as yelled at to myself from last week. i sat down on monday or tuesday and started this week's song. then i procrastinated til thursday, but when i went to the farmer's market this melody hit my head, so i voice noted it to myself, and when i got home i transcribed it into Ableton. took me into a completely different direction so i scrapped my initial sketches from tuesday. then got some time to play with it between thurs and today where i really got to dial it in more than usual.

some kind of funky upbeat track with echoes of my Disclosure and Lane 8 influences maybe?

continued to work on mixing and mastering as i go. and also i think sometimes i get protective or something with melodies like "ooo i really like this idea, i must serve it well and make something amazing around it" which is a perfectionist tendency that stops me in my tracks from just making. so there was a bit of a switch in my head this week where i realized 'wait this melody is here to serve me...like...i have it here, now, so just play around with it and that's what it's there for: play" instead of setting high expectations for what to do with it. i think maybe it's because melodies/music theory are not my strong suit so when something seems to naturally emerge, i treat it too preciously? but there's loads of good melodies out there to find/discover/create and each one can serve its purpose in the moment of playing and creating a song i guess. or at least that's what i'll go with to not slow down the creative flow.

ugh, too real about the perfectionist tendencies.  luckily WB is here to beat those tendencies out of us (weekly)

i can see the Disclosure vibe on this!
